Disease
The Fits Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Step back, look forward
There's nothing for us here
Our lives have been wasted
Cowering in fear
Violence, hate, pride
Hunger, greed, spite

We thought we were invincible
The end isn't near, the end is here
We thought we were unbreakable
To save us, we must end us

We must end us
We must die

Ruled by monsters with no faces
Living life with no name
We are forgotten, we are abandoned
The darkness is our home
We are forgotten, we are abandoned
Hell has come for us

We thought we were invincible
The end isn't near, the end is here
We thought we were unbreakable
To save us, we must end us

We thought we were invincible
We thought we were unbreakable
To save us, we must end us

The demons rip into my chest
Extracting a disease, we spent years trying to suppress
Constricting veins, bloodshot eyes
Hell has come to claim its prize

There's no way out
No way out

Nothing can stop the storm that's destined to wipe away the stains
Leaving nothing behind but life, death and unending pain

There's no way out
When you're born to die

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to The Fits' song "Disease" are a commentary on the state of the world, the human condition, and the inevitability of death. The opening lines, "Step back, look forward/There's nothing for us here," set the tone for the rest of the song - a bleak reminder that life is short and ultimately meaningless. The next lines describe the ways in which we waste our lives: "Our lives have been wasted/Cowering in fear/Violence, hate, pride/Hunger, greed, spite." The list is a litany of vices that we are all too familiar with, and that ultimately bring us nothing but misery.

The chorus, "We thought we were invincible/The end isn't near, the end is here/We thought we were unbreakable/To save us, we must end us," speaks to our false sense of security and the inevitable destruction that we ignore at our peril. We can never truly escape death, and our attempts to do so only lead us further down the path of destruction. The song argues that the only way to truly save ourselves is to accept our fate and choose our own end.

The rest of the lyrics are a description of the world we live in, ruled by faceless monsters and abandoned to darkness. We are forgotten and left to rot, and ultimately the demons will come to claim us all. The final lines of the song, "There's no way out/When you're born to die," are a stark reminder that ultimately, we are all going to die, and that we must make the most of the time we have.

I am suffering from epilepsy seizures for nearly 15 years (age 23)
- What happens before during and after the seizures......
Before the onset of seizure I somehow know that i am going to have one but in most cases i get know in the last 5-15 seconds so i have a low time frame to respond so i have to be careful when i am riding a bike driving a car swimming or other activities alone

During the seizure I usually fall down instantly most of the times i hit my head and there is always a very serious injury on my tongue due to biting while having seizure

i wake up with a pain in my head and bloody tongue and unable to eat salty/spicy for few days (thank god the tongue is the strongest muscle ) first sentence after getting consciousness is always HOW did i get here ?
I usually regain consciousness between 1hour-2hour

I have MEMORY loss of the events that occurred 6-12 hours before the onset of seizure and i only have small flashes of the events

Let me briefly elaborate the feeling of a seizure
First thing is i start to forget where i am or what i am doing i dont feel my hands and legs my minds slowly goes blank and i dont know if i am waking up again

@harshvardhan rai depends on the type of seizures-
Focal
Generalized
Focal &Generalised or maybe some other type

Its best to consult a neurologist for knowing exact condition by EEG &MRI scanning
Patient needs to describe how he/she feels during seizure
Accordingly they will take scans& prescribe medicines
Ive been taking both homeopathic& allopathic medicines

Epilepsy is a condition that can affect anyone. There are different types which can be triggered by different sources, such as light, or stress , or drugs.
Appropriate research will always be needed to improve the lives of people who have this condition.

My girlfriend is having these. She even has anxiety attacks. I feel so helpless when i see her like this. I try to check on her meditations and medicine daily but sometimes she skips them and after some times it get worse. It pains me and makes me think that i can't do anything for the person i love. She avoids me thinking I'm just wasting myself on her and I'm not able to make her understand that we are in this together , no matter what. Fighting it psychologically is an another fight. May god give her all the love she deserves. 🥺
