Stormy Weather
The Five Sharps Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Don't know why there's no sun up in the sky
Stormy weather
Since my man and I ain't together,
Keeps rainin' all the time

Life is bare, gloom and misery everywhere
Stormy weather
Just can't get my poor self together,
I'm weary all the time
So weary all the time
When he went away the blues walked in and met me.
If he stays away old rockin' chair will get me.

All I do is pray the lord above will let me walk in the sun once more.
Can't go on, every thing I had is gone
Stormy weather

Since my man and I ain't together,
Keeps rainin' all the time

Overall Meaning

The Five Sharps's song Stormy Weather is a classic torch song that talks about the intense emotions that come with a break-up, in this case, the singer's man leaving her. The song expresses a sense of despair and desolation, employing the weather as a metaphor to convey the mood of the singer. The opening lines of the song, "Don't know why there's no sun up in the sky, stormy weather" set the scene of the song, giving the impression of a gloomy, rainy day. The weather reflects the singer's state of mind as she faces the loneliness that comes with the end of a relationship.

The second stanza, "Life is bare, gloom and misery everywhere, stormy weather, just can't get my poor self together, I'm weary all the time," amplifies the forlorn feeling of the singer, providing a sense of hopelessness and incapacity to bounce back from the break-up. The lyrics then move to the chorus, where the singer talks about the fear of being alone for too long, as evidenced in the line, "If he stays away, old rockin' chair will get me." The singer uses this phrase to suggest the notion of becoming old and lonely, with nothing but an empty rocking chair to accompany her. The song concludes with the singer's plea for a better tomorrow, where she hopes to find the strength to move on from the heartbreak and "walk in the sun once more."

@Godzillafan1980

@beeps123

the cave dweller there will be tonnes and tonnes of good stuff floating in the corridors of the past. Of course mixed with a lot of crap. There’ll probably be apps that will filter out all the BS.

@kanenine5838

Untill they deem it racist or some bullshit and forever scrub it from digital existence. And because people rely on technology, we are losing value in hard copies.

@TheUltimateGC

I found a version on Spotify by a group called The Five Sharks which is probably what they were referring to because that version is sung very off key.
