All You Need Is Love
The Flaming Lips Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(originally by The Beatles)

Love, love, love
Love, love, love
Love, love, love

There's nothing you can do that can't be done
There's nothing you can sing that can't be sung
There's nothing you can say but you can learn how to play the game
It's easy

Nothing you can make that can't be made
No one you can save that can't be saved
There's nothing you can do but you can learn how to be you in time
It's easy

All you need is love, love
Love is all you need

All you need is love, love
Love is all you need

Nothing you can know that isn't known
Nothing you can see that isn't shown
Nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be
It's easy

All you need is love, love
Love is all you need

All you need is love, love
Love is all you need

Love is all you need (Love is all you need)
Love is all you need (Love is all you need)
Love is all you need (Love is all you need)
Love is all you need (Love is all you need)
Love is all you need (Love is all you need)
Love is all you need (Love is all you need)
Love is all you need (Love is all you need)
Love is all you need (Love is all you need)
Love is all you need (Love is all you need)
Love is all you need (Love is all you need)
Love is all you need (Love is all you need)

Love is all you need (Love is all you need)
Yee-hai! (Love is all you need)...

Overall Meaning

The Flaming Lips's cover of The Beatles' All You Need Is Love remains faithful to the iconic original while infusing the song with their signature psychedelic sound. The lyrics are simplistic but powerful, as they express a universal message of love being the ultimate solution to life's challenges. The chorus, "All you need is love, love. Love is all you need" is repeated throughout the song, emphasizing the message of the power of love.

The verses in the song are a reminder that everything in life is interconnected and that it's essential to embrace the power of love in everything we do. The first verse implies that there's nothing you can't do if you put your mind to it, and it's easy if you approach life with love. The second verse echoes a similar sentiment that you can't change what is already there, but you can learn how to embrace who you are and see life from a different perspective.

The song's ultimate message is simple and timeless, the idea that love is enough, and it's all you need to make a difference in the world. The Flaming Lips's cover of All You Need Is Love is a beautiful tribute to The Beatles and a reminder that, no matter who we are or where we come from, love is the universal language that transcends all borders.

This entire album has a very mechanical/post apocalyptic feel to it.  I'll be damned if this wasn't the perfect way to end it.  To me, it sounds kind of like the final words of wisdom from the eldest survivor on his death bed being passed down to the next generation of survivors in hopes that if they can correct the mistakes of the past, a disaster such as the one that started this whole journey may never happen again.  "Above all, and if nothing else, love each other."  Hauntingly beautiful.

@styk0n

sounds like the world we live in today, really.

Wow, that's such a great re-invention of that song. From the happy, go get-em tone of the original, to a lot more of a trippy, lonely, slow Lips version. I say if you're going to do a cover, do it your way, with enough of the original to keep it from being ruined, but re-invent it. And that's what they did.

@whenpigsfly906

Soo good. Flaming Lips and Edward Sharpe are two of my favorite bands. They sound awesome together
