I'll Be Home
The Flamingos Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'll be home, my darling
Please wait there for me
We'll stroll along together
Once more our love will be free

At the corner, the drugstore
Each Saturday we would meet
I'd walk you home in the moonlight
All of these things will be free

So, darling, as I write this letter
Here's hoping you're thinking of me
My time's about up, so long until
I'll be home to start serving you

I'll be home, my darling
Please wait there for me
We'll stroll along together
All of these things we'll repeat

So, darling, as I write this letter
Here's hoping you're thinking of me
My time's about up, so long until
I'll be home to start serving you

I'll be home, my darling
Please wait there for me

We'll stroll along together
Our love will be free

The Flamingos' biggest hit may be "I Only Have Eyes For You", but to me, this one is truly their absolute best. It's one beautiful, sentimental ballad sung with a passion true to its era. Takes you back to a time when great music was the norm, not the exception. Outstanding.

After sixty years, this song still gives me chills every time I play it. I always felt this was the very best example of doo wop, although there are many beautiful ones. To anyone just discovering this genre, in addition to many other songs by this group, look up Lee Andrews and the Hearts, the Ink Spots, the Platters, oh, heck, too many to list; just explore.

Stanley Sims

One of their very best. Brings back a lot of memories.

Robert Cummings

The tender voice of Nate Nelson at it's best. Died far too young but his golden voice lives on . . . .

Stephen Fuchs

Goosebumps city! For my money, this is the Flamingos' very best!

Francis Figliola

For me "lovers never say goodbye" is the best, haunting. They take a page out of the Ink Spot's book. The Flamingos are the very best of doo-wop artists!

This one and "At The Prom" are two of my favorite F'lamingos songs. Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

One of my favorite groups from the 50's. Doo wop at its best.

My favorite Flamingos song is the one that I happen to be listening to at the time. For me, they’re all that good.
