The Flying Machine is best known for its major hit single in 1969, "Smile A Little Smile For Me", which peaked at number 5 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart (on Kapp Records' Congress record label) Their first record which was self titled was released by Janus Records in 1969. By 12 December that year they had sold a million copies of the record, and it was awarded a gold disc by the R.I.A.A. [1] The song was penned by the songwriting pairing of Tony Macaulay and Geoff Stephens. Despite originating from the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, the record had no presence at all on the UK Singles Chart, despite its initial release there on Pye Records.

A follow-up single, a cover version of "Baby Make It Soon", first recorded by Marmalade, achieved the U.S. Hot 100 the following year, but the group reportedly grew frustrated with their pop-oriented style. A final single, "The Devil Has Possession Of Your Mind", suggested a change of direction, but the Flying Machine split up following its release.

Bassist Colman went on to a successful career as a session musician, record producer and BBC Radio disc jockey.

This was my Dads favourite song, he used to sing it to my mum ( her names Rosemary incase you didnt guess ) makes me smile everytime i hear it and remember happier times. I was just a little girl in the 70's. I was born in 1968, and when this song was on the charts in the early part of 1970, I was 1 year old, and I turned 2 that August. Even though the 70's was the decade of my childhood, I absolutely love the music from that decade. "Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes" is one of my favorites. Edison Lighthouse does a great job with this song. I also love other 70's artists like David Cassidy (my 70's heartthrob😍😍😍😍😍), The Carpenters, Bobby Sherman, The Jackson 5, and The Osmonds. Today's pop/rock music doesn't even compare to the pop/rock music of the 70's! I wish we all could go back to that decade!

I remember my grandma telling me she moved to the States from France with my grandpop she was 17 at that time. The first time she moved to the USA, and they went to see their new home, my grandpop knew she loves to listen to music, sadly the american radio didn't play french songs at that time but he played this song on his radio for her (her name is Rosalie) despite them not know english that much, she has vivid memories of her and grandpop dancing to "Oh my love grows, where my Rosemary goes" in their new home yet to be done. Oh, to listen to her tell me about that time makes me wonder why I wasn't born in that time period. Simply makes me think how sweet and innocent love really is.
