The song was featured in the 1999 movie Varsity Blues, during the climactic scene of the final football game. It was also featured in the 2001 film Not Another Teen Movie, in a scene parodying the aforementioned Varsity Blues football game. Part of the song is also heard in the 2010 buddy-cop comedy The Other Guys.
In a post-September 11 episode of CBS's Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn (September 21, 2001), Grohl and bassist Nate Mendel performed an acoustic rendition of the song. A full group acoustic version is available on the 2006 live album and DVD Skin and Bones. An acoustic version was also performed live on The Howard Stern Show by Grohl. The 2006 album Sound of Superman features an acoustic cover of "My Hero" by Paramore.
The song, along with the rest of the album, was released as downloadable content for the Rock Band series of music video games on November 13, 2008.
My Hero
The Foo Fighters Lyrics

Take your pictures down and shake it out
Truth or consequence, say it aloud
Use that evidence, race it around
There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
Don't the best of them bleed it out
While the rest of them peter out?
Truth or consequence, say it aloud
Use that evidence, race it around
There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary
Kudos, my hero, leavin' all the best
You know my hero, the one that's on
There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary
There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary
The lyrics of the Foo Fighters's song My Hero are an ode to the ordinary person who rises to the challenge and becomes a hero. The song is an anthem for the unsung heroes who make a difference in the world in their own quiet way. The first verse is a call to action to those who are too afraid to speak out, urging them to step up and use their voice to make a positive change. The idea of truth or consequence is raised, underscoring the importance of taking responsibility for one's actions and standing up for what one believes in. The second verse speaks to the idea that not everyone is cut out to be a hero, but the best ones are willing to give it their all, even if it means sacrificing themselves for a greater cause. The chorus is the heart of the song, celebrating the everyman who becomes a hero in his own right. The final verse is a tribute to those who have gone before, who have paved the way for others to be heroes too.

My son and I was supposed to spend the summer learning this song. He was a drummer and I was a on guitar. My 12 year old son Tristan Van Lu passed away on 3/22/23. He was the best drummer I have ever met, he was my hero. I rocked this song out at his funeral, it was the last time I will ever touch a guitar again. Played until my fingers bled my boy!. I love you so much my son, my best friend I will never forget you and will never stop missing you my son....
