The band… Read Full Bio ↴The Foreshadowing is a gothic doom metal band from Rome, Italy.
The band was officially formed at the dawn of 2005, but the project was actually started back in 1998, from an idea of Alessandro Pace (aka Alex Vega), who involved his friends Andrea Chiodetti (guitar) and Francesco Sosto (keyboards) with the idea of starting up a new gothic doom metal band in the vein of My Dying Bride, Katatonia and Anathema, revisiting the sound of these bands in a modern key and with a personal style. Soon the trio was forced to put aside the project, as they couldn’t find the right members to fill the band up.
After a long period of other experiences in various band (Klimt 1918, Spiritual Front, Grimness), they rejoined again and found the spur to take in the old doom metal project again. Soon they were joined by drum player Jonah Padella and bass guitar player Davide Pesola, two old acquaintances of the underground metal scene in Rome. A couple of months later they engaged Marco Benevento, vocalist and mastermind of the Italian gothic metal band How Like a Winter, who was the missing link to complete the line up.
Their debut full-length, "Days of Nothing", was released during autumn 2005 and the beginning of 2006 and was mixed by Giuseppe Orlando (Novembre) at Outer Sound Studios in Rome. Days of Nothing is a concept album about an imaginary apocalypse wished by an insane ordinary man. After the releases the band signs to British cult label Candlelight Records. On 22 October 2007 Days of Nothing was issued under the historical label, receiving praise from most of the critics. Recently The Foreshadowing announced their official endorsement with Jackson Guitars USA.
In the beginning of 2010, The Foreshadowing announced the release of their second album "Oionos", whose release date was set on April 2010 and contemporary made public their signing a new deal with German label Cyclone Empire Records. In the album tracklist was included a gothic metal cover version of Russians, a famous 1980s hit by Sting.
Their third album, "Second World", was released in April 2012.

The Foreshadowing's song "Hope" is a hauntingly beautiful piece that speaks of loss, guilt, and hopelessness. "My hope. She's in the water" is a phrase which signifies the despair felt after losing something or someone precious. It is a feeling of helplessness when we can't quite seem to recover from our loss. The line "I swear I saw at night when she left me" could imply an insecurity of the singer who misses his hope so much that he starts seeing her everywhere and hears her voice in everything, yet she is not there.
The verse "I read her lines, then left me drown as guilty" could signify the guilt that accompanies loss. The singer feels guilty for not doing enough to save his hope or for not living up to her expectations. The line "And through the window spied on me" could imply that his hope may have been watching him, and as he failed her, she left him for good.
The chorus "And she possessed me, she laid down the law. I worked- she refused me. I swear, the more I worked, the more I felt she'd leave me. My hope" could be interpreted in a few ways. It could mean that his hope was a dominant figure in his life and always dictated his actions. This dependency on her led to his demise, and he felt helpless in her presence. Alternatively, it could signify that the singer worked hard to keep his hope alive, but the more he tried, the more it felt like she was slipping away from him.
The verse "I've thrown my mind and future. Makes me worry, I know. Now please, just let me mesmerize the world..." could imply that the singer has given up all hope and has resigned himself to his fate. He wants to mesmerize the world with his art and forget his pain.
The final verse "I don't know what time will be when light will break the silence. I just know that sound is near when knives will stab our hearts. I don't know my dynasty and fear will keep the distance. I just know my tragedy, but I'm a man of war" could signify that the singer had lost all hope but found a new one in his willpower to keep going despite the pain. He is willing to fight for what he wants, and although he has no idea what the future holds, he knows he will face it without fear.
