Here It Comes Again
The Fortunes Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Here comes that rainy day feeling again
And soon my tears they will be falling like rain
It always seems to be a Monday
Left over memories of Sunday always spent with you
Before the clouds appeared and took away my sunshine

Here comes that rainy day feeling again
And I'll be dreaming of you, baby, in vain
Your face is always on my mind, girl
I'm hoping soon you're gonna find, girl
Your way back to me
'Cause if you say you'll stay
The rainy days will go away

Misty morning eyes
I'm trying to disguise the way I feel
But I just can't hide it
People seem to know
The loneliness will show
I'm thinking of my pride
But breaking up inside, girl

Here comes that rainy day feeling again
And soon my tears they will be falling like rain
It always seems to be a Monday
Left over memories of Sunday always spent with you
Before the clouds appeared and took away my sunshine

Here comes that rainy day feeling again
Here comes that rainy day feeling again

Here comes that rainy day feeling again
Here comes that rainy day feeling again

Overall Meaning

The Fortunes' song Here It Comes Again expresses the feeling of heartbreak and loneliness after a relationship ends. The lyrics evoke a sense of longing and sadness; the singer is overwhelmed with emotions and is unable to suppress his feelings. The recurring theme of the rainy day is significant, as it highlights the gloominess and despair that the singer experiences. Rain also symbolically represents a cleansing, a chance to start over, which is what the singer longs for. He is hoping that the person he loves will come back and help him overcome this tumultuous period of his life. The line "Misty morning eyes, I'm trying to disguise the way I feel, but I just can't hide it" depicts the singer’s struggle to come to terms with his emotions and how he can't help but feel what he feels.

The use of metaphors such as "leftover memories of Sunday" and "took away my sunshine" conveys the sense of loss that the singer is feeling. The memories that he has of the relationship are all that's left, now that the love is gone. The hopelessness of the situation is emphasized by the line "thinking of my pride but breaking up inside, girl." This painful line shows the internal struggle the singer is going through, as he tries to come to grips with his emotions.

I feel the same, I’ve always loved 60’s music although was only young then. Just thankful that I grew up hearing it as it brings back wonderful memories of my childhood now. This was one of my favourites, fabulous harmonies !
