This is a great song. It deserved to chart better than it did.

@lockwpa

Have loved this song (and all the Foundations stuff) since college in 1967!!!!!   What a band!!!!

@jackienuttall7549

Still fantastic after 50 years

45rpm, thanks for the uploading of this track. This is the original single released in mono in 1968 featuring the Clem Curtis vocal. A delightfully clearer and faithful to the original, live version, also in mono, was featured on the album 'Rocking the Foundations.' This is now available on Amazon in stereo. It would later be re-recorded for a Marble Arch stereo compilation album with vocal by Colin Young. A 2008 stereo re-make lacked the original magic.
Now, what a masterpiece composed by Tony Macaulay and John Macleod; a melancholy song with a beautiful lyric that reflects in many of our lives (…...if only I stood a better chance of realising my dream, but I can never hope to figure in your life......). How this wonderful piece of passion made it only to the UK chart position of 48 is staggering after the two previous big hits. The explanation could be in the actual production of the recording; borne out by various diligent folk who have submitted various attempts at scribing the lyrics to numerous websites; efforts have been far from correct. We shall attempt to succeed later on the song meanings site but will not guarantee to nail them all. The overall sound is far from clear – the disc always sounds as if it's coming through a
medium or long wave transmitter to a radio with an average loudspeaker with limited treble. (Their wonderful, emotive recording 'Born to live, born to die' suffered in the same way). The Marble Arch re-recording has a much crisper sound but has bizarre lyric changes itself; maybe they too couldn't work them out from the
original.
Various personnel changes saw this sometimes 7, sometimes 8 piece band struggle for consistency. We are very grateful for the sharing of this file which has been on permanent play for many days.

A real 60's classic. Beautiful. Thanks Foundations.

@anthonywalton8674

Excellent song, very underrated, I remember this at the school disco late '67.

@lance007lance

I enjoyed the slide show. Thanks for that. Great idea to have this to gaze at while listening to this song. Be nice to have em in a collection. "I think that Any Old Time" is one of their best songs. Its a pity that it didn't get to be a bigger hit. I suppose that the public back then were expecting a more up tempo song from the Foundations. I do prefer it to "Back On My Feet Again". I've never heard them do a true live version of this song. Be nice to hear one.

@ArthurGoodlad

Thanks for uploading this. One of my faves.

@Kitandrox

Loved them in 68 and 69, and always flipped the single over, side was a gem as well This was one of my favorites

@Kitandrox

I am back three years later, still loving them
