No Not Much
The Four Lads Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I don't want my arms around you, no, not much
I don't bless the day I found you, no, not much
I don't need you like the stars don't need the sky
I won't love you longer than the day I die

You don't please me when you squeeze me, no, not much
My heads the lightest from your very slightest touch
Baby, if you ever go, could I take it maybe so
Oh, but would I like it, no, not much

Like a ten cent soda doesn't cost a dime
I don't want you near me only all time

You don't thrill me when you hold me, no, not much
My brain gets hazy from your cool and crazy touch
Baby, if you ever go, could I take it maybe so

Oh, but would I like it, no, not much
No, not much

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to The Four Lads' song "No Not Much" express a complicated set of conflicting emotions towards an unnamed person. The singer declares that they do not want to be physically close to this person, indicating some level of animosity or discomfort, yet they also express uncertainty about whether they could handle it if this person were to leave them. The singer also makes it clear that they are not particularly enamored of this person, stating that they do not bless the day that they found them and that they only want them near some of the time.

I absolutely love this song. I was nine years old when it hit the radio. I loved it then, not really knowing what most of it meant, but I loved it then and, obviously, still do. I remember most of the words but not all of them.

I was one year older than you were. I bought their Greatest Hits album in 1962. Still have it.

My heart is touched by this stuff. I grew up in the 50's. My babysitter(I was 10) taught me how to dance, and this was the first song i ever danced to. I still love you, Roberta โฃโฃ In White Rock BC. If you re reading this, you are 80 minus one. I have never forgotten you.. From the corner of Parker and Buena Vista ๐Ÿ˜Ž

@Christie Lynn Thornton Totally agree. I was born in 1943 and loved rock 'n'' roll and music like this. I can still remember all the lyrics, not like today's music.

I wasn't there. I was born in 79, but I wish I had been there. I love this song. This was my grandparents' song for each other. I was blessed to grow up with a big influence from my grandparents. I have such an eclectic love of music. I especially love these songs because there is so much feeling in the songs. I was born in the wrong generation.
