Founde… Read Full Bio ↴The Frank and Walters are a pop/rock band from Cork, Ireland.
Founded in 1990 the group (named in honour of two eccentric Cork characters) are Paul Linehan (vocalist/bassist), his brother Niall Linehan (guitar) (replaced by Kevin Pedreschi in 2004) and Ashley Keating (drums).
Signing to the Setanta label in 1991, the group debuted with album EP1, and the lead track "Fashion Crisis Hits New York" became an indie hit. The follow-up album EP.2 was quickly forthcoming.
Shortly after signing to the Go! Discs label, The Franks partnered with producer Edwyn Collins to record the Happy Busman EP. Success in the UK was not far away, and following a tour in support of Carter USM, an Ian Broudie remix of the LP track After All reached the top twenty in the UK Singles Chart, peaking at number 11.
After a long sabbatical, the group returned with Grand Parade (with contributions from Gus Dudgeon), and the Indian Ocean EP in 1997. This was followed with Beauty Becomes More Than Life in 1998 and Glass in 2000. Setanta released a well received "Best of" in 2002.
In 2004 Niall Linehan left the band and was replaced by a friend of the band, Kevin Pedreschi. The band signed a new deal with FIFA Records in Ireland, and released a B-sides triple album, Souvenirs, in October 2005.
The band released a new album, Renewed Interest In Happiness, on October 27th 2006 possibly their most complete work to date.
Miles and Miles
The Frank and Walters Lyrics

You stare out at the ocean
Mountains at your back
You think you've tamed
At the end of miles you hope
You'll soon be back in motion
But you're never going back
A little peace at last
Yes, I thought that I would stay just for a while
Now a shadow cast
Is all what's left of this wanderer's profile
But still I have survived
And I know I have arrived
Here at the end of miles
I lost it all back east
I sold my El Dorado
A stranger helped me
When I was thirstiest
For some the end of miles
Is Denver Colorado
But something always
Kept me moving west
I'm lately out of reach
In towns along the California shore
I'm leathery and bleached
I'm lost and I am lonesome to the core
I've got nowhere left to go
But I'm satisfied to know
There'll be miles never more
The Frank and Walters's song Miles and Miles is a melancholic and wistful reflection on the journey of life, as characterized by the metaphor of traveling. The song starts with the singer standing at the edge of the ocean, having completed a long and arduous journey, with mountains at his back which represent the obstacles he has overcome. He reflects that he has tamed those mountains, but he is not content to settle down at the end of his journey and wishes to continue moving. The second verse reveals that the singer has come to the end of his journey due to the loss of his possessions, including his car, and he was forced to rely on kindness from strangers. For him, the end of his journey is not a particular destination but rather the moment when he reaches a point of satisfaction with himself and his experiences.
The chorus of the song describes the singer's sense of contentment at the end of his journey, despite the hardships he has faced. The line "a little peace at last" suggests that he has finally found a measure of tranquility after a long and difficult journey. He acknowledges that he has been transformed by his experiences, as evidenced by the "shadow cast" of his former self. However, the final line of the song suggests that while the singer has reached the end of his journey, there are still more miles to come for others, and that life is an endless journey of discovery and growth.
