Love Me Or Let Me Be Lonely
The Friends of Distinction Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Love me let me be lonely,
Part time love I can find any day.
So don't you defy mother nature's way, please
make it mine, a love for to stay

I can live without love,
If I wanted to in this lonely room.
But I don't want to so I leave it up to you
To wash away my gloom.
I, I can live without love,
If I wanted to in this lonely room.
But I don't want to so I leave it up to you
To wash away my gloom.

Do ooh. Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo doo doo doo.
Either you will or either you won't now.
It's up to you I've had my say.
So truly love, do love me completely.
Hey come on, come on come my way.

I can live without love,
If I wanted to in this lonely room.
But I don't want to so I leave it up to you
To wash away my gloom.
I, I can live without love,
If I wanted to in this lonely room.
But I don't want to so I leave it up to you
To wash away my gloom.

Do ooh. Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo doo doo doo,
Doo, doo, doo doo.

Ooh, yeah. My baby. Ooh ooh ooh yea,
ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma,
ma, ma, ma, ma, ma baby!

Love or let me be lonely.
Love, or let me be lonely.
(with ad lib to fade)

Love or let me be lonely
Love, or let me be loney

This song is so underrated......it is an amazing song of beautiful voices and melodies and the crescendo is incredible......when it peaks it shows that brilliant arranging and writing can create evocative feelings in the listener.......truly a masterpiece that holds up well against the unremarkable songs that are produced today!

Absolutely!

I’m 20 and I can’t believe how songs like this just blow songs of my generation completely away. The 60’s, 70’s and the 80’s are the best.

@jerrygil1965

Wow, I'm around the same age as you and I couldn't agree more

@jubalcalif9100

Well said and well put ! Wonderful to know that young people like you appreciate the great music of the past ! You clearly have xlnt taste !! :-)

@anthonydilligaf823

There's a ton more.
...your generation could have this.
They just need to INSIST on REAL MUSIC.

@thomastimlin1724

Appreciate that...from a 65 year old ex music teacher! Computers put a lot of session musicians out of work. You hear REAL instruments, no computer samples, autotune. You had to have talent and nail it in the recording session. Listen to the brass section in this, they are totally bad asses, so talented probably slept through the entire session lol. and it was NOT about videos, it was about the MUSIC. An entire 3 generation do not listen to the music anymore, they "watch" it. ALthough there is some good stuff today, Videos combined with music in order to sell the song/artist is why they cannot discern the difference between real music and the junk....no patience to actually listen.....they have been musically robbed. This is why I appreciate Indy music without videos.

The 70's brought so many different genres of music which really utilized the best of the bass guitar. The bass line and vocals drive this song. Prog rock, jazz-fusion, funk, disco, r & b, and soul are some other great examples in which the bass guitar got the spotlight in the instrumental section of music in the 70's. There won't be music this great again; but, this will last a lifetime.

One of the best things about music in the 70s is that no one said “genre” when describing it.
