Help
The Front Bottoms Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Some of us go through some changes
Some of us go through some phases
Things we fall into,
And then fall out
You'd explain this to yourself in the bathroom mirror last night
As you take your toothbrush out of your mouth

You said this is what I want, motherfucker make it happen for me
You said this is what I want, motherfucker make it happen for me

Help
You are the poison I need
Help
Less of inside my body
Help
You need a means to an ending
I need a spiritual cleansing

When you ask me do you wanna stay believe me
What I wanna say is yes but I gotta go to work

Help
You are the poison I need
Help
Less of inside my body
Help
You need a means to an ending
And I need a spiritual cleansing

On some nights there's something cool to do
On some nights there is nothing to do at all
I guess it's cool for right now
Just like everything else

I watch her throw her hands up into the air
I hear her say don't worry
The lovers will go down together into the flames with nothing else
But the promise to meet up and hang out

To hang out oh, I wanna hang out

Thank you for letting me borrow your jacket it
Kept me warm in a cold place
Some people no matter how much money they make
Can't get out of their own way
Can't get out of their own way

So (help)
I'm always focusing in on the wrong things (help)
And then the wrong things become everything (help)
I don't know what I'm gonna do, I don't know what I'm gonna do about anything (help)

(This is what I want, motherfucker make it happen for me)
(Help)

You are the poison I need (help)
(This is what I want, motherfucker make it happen for me)
You need a means to an ending (help)

I don't know anything (help)

I don't what I'm gonna do about anything (help)
I don't what I'm gonna do about anything

Overall Meaning

The song "Help" by The Front Bottoms is about the struggle of trying to figure out one's purpose in life and the difficulties of making changes. The lyrics express the feeling of being stuck, wanting to make things happen, but not knowing exactly how to do so. The singer recognizes that some people fall into different phases and changes in their lives but sometimes can't find a way out of them. He also acknowledges his own problems of focusing on the wrong things and how they become everything to him.

The chorus features the repeated phrase "help," which can be interpreted in different ways. It can be seen as a plea for assistance in navigating life or as a cry for help to escape from the current circumstances. The line, "you are the poison I need," could be interpreted as one needing a negative influence to inspire change or as a metaphor for a toxic relationship.

The lyrics also touch on themes of relationships and the promise of staying together through tough times. However, the singer acknowledges that sometimes commitments are not always possible, as shown in the line, "When you ask me do you wanna stay, believe me, what I wanna say is yes but I gotta go to work."

Overall, "Help" portrays a relatable struggle of trying to figure out one's life path and making changes. The repeated plea for assistance and the acknowledgment of the difficulty of making the desired changes express a raw and honest sentiment.

My boyfriend showed me this band. The first time I heard them I thought they were pretty shitty, but damn does this grow on you. I really can't figure out why because I never listen to stuff like this. I guess maybe it's because the lyrics are so simple but strangely accurate in every way. They are like thoughts you would have right before you go to bed. On the surface, they make no fucking sense, but while you are having them they mean everything.

+TonyTheFreakFisk way better than pop and rap in my opinion, at least bands like these have true meaningful lyrics. Some lyrics made be so simple, but has a seriously deep meaning to it.

Turkey Bird I thought that too at first. I think it’s cause melody wise they’re not that great, and it’s more talking then singing, so at first when comparing them to radio bands or big time emo bands, they’re kinda blah. But lyrically, when you pay attention, they’re really emotional and pretty deep, and all of a sudden every song represents something in your life. And I think that’s why people fall in love with their music.

@SophiaTheOriginal

idk what to say. FBR just got all the good bands

søphia |-/ I might be on board with you, if you're saying literally every band in the world on or off this label besides The Front Bottoms doesn't qualify as good.

I love the way they have matured. HELP still has the beautiful lyrics you come to expect from the front bottoms plus a polished clean song. I've loved these guys since they didnt even have a label, I couldnt be more happy with the direction they are taking. TFB!
