In 1994 the first demo "Oblivion" was released. The next year they released their first CD "Pale Awakening" for a German label. Several concerts, many contributions to various compilations and reviews in several music magazines helped the band to become known to the dark romantic music lovers.
Diego spent three years on a long musical research work. After that, durin 1997, the Italian label Eibon Records printed the band's second CD titled "Fragments of Memories".
In the year 1998 Diego co-founded a side project with Arianna called Static Movement. The musical style of Static Movement is not so different from the Frozen Autumn, but in this case only electronic instruments are used. The result was a more synthetic coldwave sound. The partnership proved fruitful for both parties and so Arianna became a permanent fixture in The Frozen Autumn line-up, Static Movement remaining their "concept research project".
Merletto has been working on his video art since 2003, which has become an integral part of the band's live shows.

Sperm Like Honey
The Frozen Autumn Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Last night I lost control
Dreamt of dying
Died a thousand times.
So many different deaths
Smiling at me Caressing me Promising delight
Thought my shells were strong enough.
So many different deaths
Making love to me,
Sucking me,
Granting delight.
And my sperm becomes like honey
Dripping from distance,
Blessing the earth, sweet as a new womb.
Death is gone, life is gone, the shells reform::.
(End)
The Frozen Autumn's song "Sperm Like Honey" is a haunting and enigmatic exploration of the loss of control and the allure of temptation. The repeated lyric "last night I lost control" emphasizes the singer's sense of powerlessness, while the dreamt deaths signify the many ways in which our choices can lead to our own destruction. The deaths are not only physical, but metaphorical as well, with the promise of delight from seductive forces representing the danger of succumbing to temptation.
The imagery of sperm becoming like honey is likewise symbolic, with the sweetness representing the entrancement of desire and the new womb indicating a potential rebirth or redemption. However, the final lines of the song suggest that the cycle of life and death is never truly broken, with the shells reforming and the possibility of further loss of control always present.
