1) The Gits were an American punk rock band, formed in Yellow Springs, Ohio in 1986. Known for their part in the burgeoning Seattle music scene of the early 1990s, they were known for their fiery live performances. Members included singer Mia Zapata, guitarist Joe Spleen (born Andy Kessler), bassist Matt Dresdner and drummer Steve Moriarty. They dissolved in 1993 after the murder of Zapata.
During their existence, the band released two studio albums, one compilation of early recordings, one live recording, three 7" singles and appeared on various compilations. The band also recorded on a few independent labels, and released its two studio albums on C/Z Records. In 2003, each release in the band's discography was remastered and expanded with bonus tracks on Broken Rekids.
Though the band never signed with a major label and never reached a mainstream audience, Zapata has nevertheless been cited as an influence by many female vocalists.

The Gits Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Their own need for deception
By the size of their lies and
The size of the stories that they're telling
They've proved themselves to be
Very small.....minded
Do you ever think when you're dealing with the worst
The outcome is the best thing for you
That you face it
I could put it in some theme of a tale
Or a story from a myth
But it means a simple thing
I ain't worth nothing if there's no perspective
Of truth in my life
I think I've had enough
I wonder why I don't just go off
Don't like to be a violent woman
But I know I have it in me.
I know I shouldn't be surprised
Why some people look like hogs rolling in the mud
It's a dying shame
That's where some look for the truth!
The Gits' "Absynthe" is a powerful and introspective song that speaks to the human experience of being used and deceived by others. The lyrics suggest that there are people who will take advantage of you for their own gain, and that these individuals are often small-minded and dishonest. The song's chorus reflects the idea that sometimes the worst experiences in life can have positive outcomes, and that knowledge gained from facing evil can be transformative.
The singer of the song seems to be struggling with her own anger and frustration at these people. She acknowledges that she has the potential for violent tendencies, but she also recognizes that there is a greater truth that she wants to live her life by. The lyrics suggest that this truth is something that is personal and individual, and that it is essential to her sense of self-worth.
Ultimately, "Absynthe" is a song about the importance of perception and truth in our lives. It speaks to the idea that we all have the potential to be deceived and used, but that we also have the power to overcome these challenges and live authentic lives.
