1) The Gits were an American punk rock band, formed in Yellow Springs, Ohio in 1986. Known for their part in the burgeoning Seattle music scene of the early 1990s, they were known for their fiery live performances. Members included singer Mia Zapata, guitarist Joe Spleen (born Andy Kessler), bassist Matt Dresdner and drummer Steve Moriarty. They dissolved in 1993 after the murder of Zapata.
During their existence, the band released two studio albums, one compilation of early recordings, one live recording, three 7" singles and appeared on various compilations. The band also recorded on a few independent labels, and released its two studio albums on C/Z Records. In 2003, each release in the band's discography was remastered and expanded with bonus tracks on Broken Rekids.
Though the band never signed with a major label and never reached a mainstream audience, Zapata has nevertheless been cited as an influence by many female vocalists.

Insecurities
The Gits Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Our insecurities, we wear them till we cannot see
The crap the shit the garbage our mind it has to swallow;
It makes us enemies, building up mistrust with greed
Turns me to shut the door and hide away while time gets lost
Your ignorant response can leave you looking of a beast
(chorus)
And when you're pushing me away
And when you're playing the jester
Well I guess you ought to
Or else it might mirror a flaw that lies in you
Oh damn your insecurities
Not always insecure, but bold on what you think is right
I hope you break the crown before you plate it on your head
(chorus)
Oh damn your insecurities, they're catching up with you.
The Gits' song Insecurities speaks to the many ways insecurities can shape our interactions with others, and the self-destructive patterns we often fall into as a result. The opening lines, "Our insecurities, they bend us down on broken knees / Our insecurities, we wear them till we cannot see" paint a picture of the weight that our fears and doubts can have on us. The verse continues with a critique of the negative thoughts that often consume us, describing them as "crap," "shit," and "garbage" that we are forced to "swallow." Insecurities not only hold us back, but can also drive a wedge between us and those around us, "building up mistrust with greed."
The second half of the verse laments the way insecurities can isolate us, "Turns me to shut the door and hide away while time gets lost / Your ignorant response can leave you looking of a beast." These lines suggest that, while we may turn inward because of our insecurities, the negative responses of others can compound our feelings of inadequacy and even drive us further away. The chorus takes on the idea of pushing people away as a defense mechanism, urging listeners not to let their fears control how they relate to others, "And when you're pushing me away / You're scared you'll get too much / And when you're playing the jester / Well I guess you ought to / Or else it might mirror a flaw that lies in you." The repetition of "Oh damn your insecurities" in the verse and chorus serves as a call to action, a plea to recognize and overcome the self-doubt that holds us back.
