Heavy
The Glorious Sons Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Come heavy or don't come at all
You leave your peace at home that's your call
It never paid to be merciful
Come heavy or don't come at all

Come heavy or don't come at all
Been here before and watched a better man fall
I smell the feel on you boy
Come heavy or don't come at all

I will put you down
I will put you down
I will put you down for king and for country

I will put you down
I will put you down
I will put you down if the grave's what your need

You ain't a comrade or a friend
I ain't a brother, I'm a means to an end
In times of war we live in hell
You can't trust a man in war with himself

I'll be the last breath you breath
I'll be the last man you'll see
I'm gonna cut you at the knees boy
Come heavy or don't come at all

I will put you down
I will put you down
I will put you down for king and for country

I will put you down
I will put you down
I will put you down if the grave's what your need

Are you ready
I'm coming heavy
Are you ready to let it all go

Are you ready
I'm coming heavy
Are you ready to let it all go

Come heavy or don't come at all
You leave your peace at home that's your call
It never paid to be merciful
Come heavy or don't come at all

I will put you down
I will put you down
I will put you down for king and for country

I will put you down
I will put you down
I will put you down if the grave's what your need

I will put you down
I will put you down
I will put you down for king and for country

I will put you down
I will put you down
I will put you down if the grave's what your need

I'm coming heavy, ah

I'm coming heavy, ah
I'm coming heavy

Overall Meaning

The Glorious Sons' "Heavy" is a hard rock track with lyrics that speak to the chaos and danger of war. The song addresses the idea of leaving behind any sense of peace or civility when entering into conflict, as there is little room for mercy or compassion in battle. The repeated refrain of "Come heavy or don't come at all" sets the tone for the song, underscoring the idea that one must be prepared to fight with everything they have, or else not bother showing up.

The song also touches on themes of betrayal and mistrust, emphasizing the idea that in times of war, even close relationships can be fraught with tension and danger. The lyrics "You ain't a comrade or a friend, I ain't a brother, I'm a means to an end" convey the sense that allies can quickly become enemies based on shifting loyalties or battlefield circumstances. The singer asserts their own power and readiness to take on anyone who threatens them or their country, stating "I will put you down for king and for country" and "I'll be the last breath you breathe."

Overall, "Heavy" is a high-energy, intense song that draws on classic rock influences while addressing themes that are relevant to contemporary conflicts both at home and abroad.

"Heavy"

[Verse 1:]
Come heavy, or don't come at all,
You leave your piece at home, that's you're call.
It never paid to be merciful,
Come heavy, or don't come at all,

Come heavy, or don't come at all,
Been here before, and watched a better man fall.
I smell the fear on you, boy,
Come heavy, or don't come at all,

[Chorus]
I will put you down,
I will put you down,
I will put you down,
For king and for country.
I will put you down,
I will put you down,
I will put you down,
If the grave is what you need.

[Verse 2:]
You ain't a comrade or a friend,
I ain't a brother, I'm a means to an end.
In times of war and living hell,
You can't trust a man at war with himself.

I'll be the last breath you breathe,
I'll be the last man you see.
I'm gonna cut you at the knees, boy,
Come heavy, or don't come at all.

[Chorus]

Are you ready? I'm comin' heavy.
Are you ready to let it all go?
Are you ready? I'm comin' heavy.
Are you ready to let it all go?

[Verse 3:]
Come heavy, or don't come at all.
You leave your piece at home, that's your call.
It never paid to be merciful,
Come heavy, or don't come at all.

[Chorus x2]

[Outro:]
I'm comin' heavy
Ah, I'm comin' heavy
Ah, I'm comin' heavy

Yea

@Stonedrag

If these guys can keep it together they are destined for big things. This concept and shock value of the video was a great idea. Let alone the song itself which is addictive and changes your mood when it pops on the radio. Plus their live show is great and the musicianship kills. I sound like a fangirl.

I saw these guys play when they were just getting started in Kingston, Ontario years ago.

My brother would go and hang out with them after classes.

I remember the first time I heard them play "Mama", I knew they'd make it.

Keep it up boys! You rock!
