My Poor Heart
The Glorious Sons Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I think I've taken it too far
I need a cold glass of water and a place to fall apart
I need to rest my poor heart
Yeah I lost my wallet and my keys
They're lying somewhere around with my dignity
I woke up and I couldn't breathe
I think it's time to go home
I think it's time to be alone
I'm so tired of being gone
I need a little more sleep
A little less talk
I gotta go see my ma and pa (oh)
I need to rest my poor heart
I think I've taken it too far
I need a cold glass of water and a place to fall apart
I need to rest my poor heart
Yeah I went to the moon and back
And on the way down I crashed
I had an itch and I needed scratchin'
Oh, ain't it funny how that feeling just don't last
I think it's time to go home
I think it's time to be alone
I'm so tired of being gone
I need a little more sleep
A little less talk
I gotta go see my ma and pa
I need a little more sleep
A little less talk
I gotta go see my ma and pa
I need to rest my poor heart
I need to rest my poor heart
I need a cold glass of water and a place to fall apart
I need to rest my poor heart (yeah, yeah)
I need to rest my poor heart
I need to rest my poor heart
I need a cold glass of water, I need a place to fall apart
I need to rest my poor heart
In "My Poor Heart," The Glorious Sons sing about the exhaustion that comes with living a fast-paced, hedonistic lifestyle. The singer has reached a breaking point and is in need of a break to recuperate. He laments over losing his wallet and keys, as well as his dignity through indulging in reckless behavior. He is tired of being on the go and desires to return to his roots to reconnect with his family.
The repeated refrain of "I need to rest my poor heart" underscores the emotional and physical toll of the singer's lifestyle. He desperately needs to slow down, recharge and recalibrate his priorities. He acknowledges that the highs of his life are fleeting, even comparing the post-adventure comedown to an itch that needs scratching, contrasting with the image of flying to the moon and back. Ultimately, the singer recognizes that he needs to return home, to simpler times, and the embrace of his loved ones.
Overall, "My Poor Heart" highlights the impact of impulsive choices and the importance of self-care, rest and returning to one's roots.

This song in concert was fucking amazing. They are actually so good, they actually make me proud to say that I'm from Kingston
@steveramsfan
100% agree. I had never heard any songs from the band before the concert, they opened with this and I was hooked. Tiny venue in Birmingham UK, 3m from the band and the sound just blew me away. So much energy.
