White Noise
The Glorious Sons Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
In all it's pelting pain
I know my mind's made
I'm gonna die in the rush
Like a gleaming kid
And I've learned the older you get
You're either wild and dying
Tonight I'm natures bullet shooting
Shambles from a gleaming sin
White noise, white noise
I smoke my cigarettes to feel the burn
It's kind of nice feeling
Something that you've earned
To just turn off the lights
And burn in the dark with a dart
I'm west-bound, bloody and proud
A secret choice ain't a secret now
You gotta roll with the punches
And pull with your pride to put it out
White noise, white noise
White noise, white noise
White noise, white noise
I've got the feeling again
I've got the feeling again
White noise, white noise
White noise, white noise
White noise, white noise
White noise, white noise
White noise, white noise
White noise, white noise
White noise, white noise
I've got the feeling again
The lyrics of "White Noise" by The Glorious Sons is a somber reflection on the contradictions and struggles of life. The opening line sets a melancholic tone, with imagery of heavy rain on one's mind. The lyrics then go on to express the singer's sense of resignation and acceptance of their fate. They know that they will die in the "rush" - meaning either they will burn out early in life, or they will live a safe and unremarkable life. The next lines express a sense of defiance, that the singer is determined to live their life on their own terms, even if it means embracing the chaos and destruction that come with it.
The chorus repeats the phrase "white noise" over and over again, suggesting a sense of emptiness or numbness. It is a metaphor for the way we can become desensitized to the world around us, or the way our own inner turmoil can drown out everything else. The second verse continues this theme of rebellion and self-destruction, with the singer smoking cigarettes and "burning in the dark." They are proud of their choices, even if they are secret or frowned upon by others. The final lines suggest that the singer is experiencing a moment of clarity or insight, that they are feeling something significant and meaningful.

Well it's pissin' rain in all my head again
My thoughts are in turmoil once more
In all it's pelting pain
With intense discomfort and distress
I know my mind's made
I have made up my mind
I'm gonna die in the rush
I will meet my end while living life to the fullest
Like a gleaming kid
With the excitement and wonder of a child
And I've learned the older you get
As I've grown older, I've discovered that
You're either wild and dying
You can either be reckless and face danger or
Or boring and blessed
Lead a safe and fortunate life
Tonight I'm natures bullet shooting
Tonight I am unstoppable and unstoppable like a bullet flying through the wind
Shambles from a gleaming sin
My reckless behavior can have consequences
White noise, white noise
Distractions and noise making it hard to stay focused
I smoke my cigarettes to feel the burn
I smoke because I enjoy the feeling of burning in my chest
It's kind of nice feeling
It's a pleasant sensation
Something that you've earned
Feels like a reward for something
To just turn off the lights
To simply switch off the lights and leave the world behind
And burn in the dark with a dart
To inhale smoke and let it fill the void in the darkness
I'm west-bound, bloody and proud
I'm heading west with conviction and determination
A secret choice ain't a secret now
My private decision is now public knowledge
You gotta roll with the punches
You must adapt and overcome obstacles
And pull with your pride to put it out
And use your dignity and self-respect to restore order
I've got the feeling again
I can feel it once more
