1. The Go is a ban… Read Full Bio ↴There are two American rock bands with this name:
1. The Go is a band from Detroit, that began as a garage punk band in 1998. It is notable in part for original lead guitarist Jack White, whose sloppy, overdriven distortion-laden and sometimes blistering solos were early echoes of the type of minimalist, raw, lo-fi sound with which he would achieve fame in his other band, The White Stripes. Upon White's departure in early '99, The Go has evolved in recent years to a neo-classic rock blend of 60's and 70's influences. The Go is composed primarily of Robert "Bobby" Harlow (vocals), John Krautner (guitar, bass), Marc Fellis (drums), James McConnell (lead guitar), and a rotating cast of other band members. The Go now play as Conspiracy of Owls.
2. The Go was a punk and power pop influenced rock group from Yonkers, New York. It was active from about 1979 to 1982. They played in the famous CBGBs club, they and later released their sole EP in 1980 with the help of Rob Freeman (the same engineer often used by the Ramones). They are currently perhaps best known for the song "Don't Take Her Away" from said EP.

You look for all that's wrong, instead of all that right
Does it feel good to you? to reign on my parade
You never say a word, unless it's to complain
It's driving me insane
If I were you, holding the world right in my hands.
The first thing I'd do, is thank the stars for all that I am
Look what's around you now, more than you ever dreamed
Have you forgotten just, how hard it use to be?
So what's it going to take? for you to realize
That all could go away, in one blink of an eye
It happens all the time
If I were you, holding the world right in my hands.
The first thing I'd do, is thank the stars above, tell the words I love
That I do
Yea if I were you,
Whoa, yea if I were you
If I were you, whoa
Yea if I were you
So what's it going to take? for you to realise
It all could go away, in one blink of an eye it happens all the time!
If I were you, holding the world right in my hands.
The first thing I'd do, is thank the stars above, tell the words I love
Take a breath and enjoy the view
Live the life that I wanted to
If I were you if I were you if I were you!
The lyrics to The Go's song "Whatcha Doin'" appear to be about dealing with someone who always seems to have a negative outlook on life. The first verse describes this person as being attracted to darkness and focusing on what's wrong instead of what's right. The singer is frustrated with this behavior and wonders if it makes the other person feel good to "reign on [their] parade." The second verse suggests that the person in question has forgotten how hard things used to be and is taking their current situation for granted. The singer urges them to appreciate what they have before it's gone.
The chorus presents an alternative perspective - "if I were you holding the world right in my hands, the first thing I'd do is thank the stars for all that I am." The singer is essentially saying that if they were in the other person's position, they would be grateful and take advantage of all the opportunities available to them. The bridge reinforces the idea that life is fleeting and everything could be taken away in an instant, so it's important to enjoy the present moment.
Overall, the song seems to be about the importance of having a positive attitude and not taking your blessings for granted. The singer is frustrated with someone who seems to be doing just that and is encouraging them to change their perspective before it's too late.
