I bet ur kids hated it. They can’t relate. It was a fun music scene back then with serious bands like The Pretenders, and so many amazing bands from England at the time. The Go-Gos were more of a fun Pop Valley Girl band with lively music, so it was refreshing from all the synths electronic bands that were amazing too, but variety is what made the 80’s. So, BananaRama and The Go-Gos were fun, danceable sounds.

The Go Gos really made a big musical splash with Vacation as I was entering college. I became sort of a closet Go Gos fan, would listen to their Beauty and the Beat album on cassette tape when nobody else was around. They had a bad ass reputation, rebellious, drugs, wild and crazy, etc. Regardless, their music has stood the test of time, and it often brightens my day. Hey ladies, thanks for the music.

Who else is in their 40s and remembers this like yesterday? I was 9 years old when my mother bought this album for me.. I had this tiny little toy of a record player that had these little colored lights on the front that lit up with the beat of the music.. I would play this record... call my mother to come and listen to me sing.. because this little player had an attached mic that you could sing with the music and hear it through its speakers.. I would hide under my bed.. lol because I was so shy and a dork.. and I would sing this song for my mom.... THAT started my love of singing. I just love to sing.. sad part is.. I developed this goiter on my throat in my late 20s.. and now sometimes I can sing.. other times I cannot.. I assume something is pressing on my vocals.. I never had it looked at.. I really miss being able to sing.. it was always second nature.. But all of these bands and singers from the 80s... makes me sad... brings back soo many memories.. Life has gone by soooo damn fast..

Haven't you ever been at a job and you saw people moving up in the ranks or being taken care of to cover their incompetence, while other, better workers just got dumped on? Will the Go-go's earn more money being in it, or less not being in it? By keeping them out it exposes what a fraud that organization must be, just like the Oscars. As a gay man I’ve been in many clubs and heard much much music. I have been to many many concerts. I saw the GoGos in NYC in 84’ with INXS and Michael Hutchens. Got a hi from Belinda Carlisle and a wave from Jane. I was so enamored, I thought I would melt! Saw INXS twice that summer on separate tickets, along with Patti LaBelle and Billy Ocean. Really wanted to see Bowie that summer, but tickets were sold out so early, couldn’t go! Anyway it was a busy summer, I got to see and hear some great fantastic music, of which I will never forget. And of course I saw Madonna that summer sale at the virgin tour

Literally a perfect 1980’s video. Intro them planning on going on vacation, then i love how they flipped back and forth between the band playing and them water skiing. Then it comes to completion with the janitor sweeping all away. Why can’t we have awesome videos like this anymore?

I was like 13 when this came out and I had the biggest crush on Belinda C for a long time. This song brings back those awesome 80s summer days. I’d give anything to go back and live it all over again. Wouldn’t change a thing. Kids, don’t ever take youth for granted. Enjoy it, live it, take some risks. You only get one shot, because time only goes forward. 👍

I’m angry at myself that it took me this long to realize what a great drummer Gina is. Seriously underrated. And now that my daughter is drumming, it’s great to see her drum Gina’s songs. They remind me of Men at Work… amazing musicianship by all of the members, some of the catchiest hits of all time, and may not have had longevity but while they were rockin’ they were huge! Long live the Go-Go’s!

You are so right; Gina often mentions that one of her biggest drummer influences was John Bonham... Now, I listen and pick up on the on the Bonham influences everywhere. I had dismissed and disregarded Gina as being just an ordinary drummer. Makes me feel good to know I caught my mistake.

The more I listen to this song, the more it seems like it's a story of a girl conflicted in her relationship and decided to get away from it to breathe a little, perhaps to prepare for a breakup. After some time away, she realized she only needed some space but is still in love with him/her. We all can do good with a little time alone. Take a vacation from it all😉

I had forgotten this song existed! I don't even know where or when I heard it, but I have a vague memory of hearing the chorus at some point as a small child. I don't know if it was a movie or a commercial or what, but it just unlocked a happy, nostalgic feeling from my childhood.

It was used briefly at the beginning of “A Rugrats Vacation”, could be what you’re remembering depending on how old you were in 1997. Interestingly the usage of this song made it pretty difficult for Nickelodeon to rerun the episode on TV, and it’s also missing from streaming services for the same reason.

Sheer brilliance! Great song and having the girls be Cypress Gardens water skiers was excellent. I love how Charlotte lifts her arm at 1:41, throws her head back and smiles. It's all great, and Gina's barette was adorable!

So, it's that moment I realize it was 40 years ago almost to this day I purchased the first cassette single "Vacation" from Sam Goody and a friend liked it so much it has been borrowed for 40 years.
I'm thinking it's not coming back.
