Thunderbird
The Golden Filter Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In the whitest white house, in the house made of the dawn
In the reddest red house, the house of evening light
In the blackest black house, you purify the day,
you’re soaring through the night,
you’re soaring through the night

Storms forming as the great bird flies
Stirring her winds of the world
Watch lightning flashing from her eyes
Your fearsome form dominates the skies

Thunderbird
Thunderbird
Thunderbird
Thunderbird

Residing on the mountaintop
Wings soaring through the night
Born of the condor I control the rain
Faithful servant to the sky

Purify the day, soaring through the night
Purify the day, soaring through the night
In the house made of the dawn, in the house of evening light
In the house made of the dawn, the house of evening light
You purify the day, you’re soaring through the night

In forests and fields, in rivers and from ponds, all that have webs, cloven footed ones.
To the Grand Ark, together friendly came, whose several species were to everlong to name.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Thunderbird" by The Golden Filter are describing the mythical Thunderbird, a powerful bird that appears in stories from various Indigenous cultures across North America. The Thunderbird is believed to be a divine creature that has control over the elements, particularly lightning and thunder. The first stanza of the song mentions three houses: "In the whitest white house, in the house made of the dawn / In the reddest red house, the house of evening light / In the blackest black house, you purify the day." These colors represent the sky at different times of the day, and the Thunderbird is said to reside in all of them, purifying and protecting the world.

The second stanza talks directly to the Thunderbird and describes its power and significance: "Storms forming as the great bird flies / Stirring her winds of the world / Watch lightning flashing from her eyes / Your fearsome form dominates the skies." The Thunderbird is seen as a symbol of strength and authority, with the ability to create and control the forces of nature. The final stanza brings to mind the idea of community and unity: "In forests and fields, in rivers and from ponds, all that have webs, cloven footed ones. / To the Grand Ark, together friendly came, whose several species were to everlong to name." This creates an image of diverse animals coming together under the protection of the Thunderbird.

Overall, the song is a homage to the Thunderbird and its importance in Indigenous culture, as well as a celebration of nature and the power it holds.

The song and the video make all together and individually an experience beyond reality. It's simply amazing and magical how everything combine so well and put the viewer/listener in a trip, pacing with the beat, waiting to the thunderbird to raise and dominate the skies, living intensely the ritual and trance of it. Loving every second of it. I'm on so much weed right now.
