Founded in Buffalo, New York, the Goo Goo Dolls, who were then known as the "Sex Maggots," initially consisted of John Rzeznik, Robby Takac, and George Tutuska. The band changed their name to the Goo Goo Dolls (the name was picked out from an ad in a True Detective magazine) at the request of a local club owner who refused to let them play otherwise. They were originally signed on by Metal Blade Records, and they released their self-titled debut album in 1987.
In their early career, they were often dismissed by critics as " The Replacements wannabes." While they were embraced by college radio and the local punk scene (Playing such venues as CBGB's), especially after the release of their third album, Hold Me Up (1990), it was not until 1995, with the release of their single "Name," (from the album A Boy Named Goo) that the Goo Goo Dolls experienced any commercial success. Their mainstream success, however, was bittersweet as they faced a lengthy legal battle with Metal Blade Records over royalties that were being withheld from the band; hence, the Goos eventually switched to Metal Blade's parent company, Warner Brothers. In 1998, "Iris" was released on the City of Angels soundtrack, and the Goos were propelled to stardom, as the song stayed on the Billboard charts at number one for 18 weeks and was nominated for three Grammys that year. The song was also included on their fifth album, "Dizzy Up the Girl," which was released that same year.
As of February 2007, The Goo Goo Dolls broke the record of having the most top 10 songs on the AC Charts, with 12 top 10 hits! Beating out Matchbox 20 and Sheryl Crow with only 10 hits.
Don't Worry

Left my house by noon today (and I saw you standing there)
No one spoke but we both listened
Heard every word you didn't say
And the sun shines all around us
Smells like summer's on the way (and I saw you standing there)
Tell the story of a lifetime
Don't worry 'bout today (and the words that you said)
Don't worry 'bout today (shake the world from your head)
Least for a while
You see, the days keep getting longer
But my nights seem longer still (and my TV's off the air)
Watching repeats on my ceiling
Another hour left to kill
Don't worry 'bout today (and the words that you said)
Don't worry 'bout today (shake the world from your head)
Least for a while
The song "Don't Worry" by The Goo Goo Dolls explores the theme of uncertainty and anxiety over the future, while also emphasizing the importance of living in the moment. The lyrics describe the singer's experience of reaching out to someone they care about, and finding comfort in their unspoken connection. They share a moment of anticipation and hope, watching the sun rise and feeling the promise of summer. But despite this optimism, the singer remains haunted by the passage of time and the sense of being stuck in their own life. They feel isolated and bored, unable to escape the monotony of their own thoughts.
Throughout the song, there is a tension between the present and the future, as well as between the external world and the singer's inner experience. The refrain "Don't worry 'bout today" is both a reassurance and a plea, emphasizing the need to let go of anxiety and focus on the moment at hand. The repetition of the phrase "and I saw you standing there" adds a sense of intimacy and emotional depth to the song, as if the singer's connection with this person is the only thing keeping them grounded.
As a whole, "Don't Worry" is a poignant reflection on the human desire for meaning and connection in a confusing and sometimes overwhelming world. It acknowledges the challenges of finding purpose and joy in our day-to-day lives, while expressing the belief that there is always hope for a brighter tomorrow.
