A Very Special Day
The Grapes Of Wrath Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Seems too big to be enjoyed
It's time to pass the buck
Missing hit, double up fit after fit
'till I can catch my breath
And I found
It's a very special day
When we make a magic crownMake your way
Through a scary shimmer town
It's a very special day
Push alone
Weaving over bridges home
With coffee canterloin
Safe at home
To old sixties sounds we shake
With words out of control
And I found it's a very special day
When we make a magic crown
Make your way
Through a scary shimmer town
It's a very special day
And I found it's a very special day
When we make a magic crown
Make your way
Through a scary shimmer town
It's a very special day
And I found it's a very special day
When we make a magic crown
Make your way
Throught a scary shimmer town
It's a very special day
There again
So all the ties that bound us when
We needed them the most
The Grapes of Wrath's song "Very Special Day" describes a day that is out of the ordinary and holds a special significance. The first verse implies a feeling of overwhelm and a need for relief as the sun seems too big to enjoy. The singer is feeling the pressure to pass the buck and seems to be struggling to keep up with some sort of responsibility. However, amidst the chaos, they find that it's a very special day when they make a magic crown and travel through a scary, shimmering town. The second verse describes the journey home, weaving over bridges with a coffee canterloin. The singer feels safe and able to let loose with old sixties sounds, letting their words be out of control. They once again find that it's a very special day when they make a magic crown and travel through the scary, shimmering town.
Overall, the song seems to be about finding joy in the midst of chaos and stress. The magical crown seems to be a symbol of hope or a reminder to find beauty in the world, even when everything else seems to be falling apart. The scary, shimmering town could represent the challenges we face in life that we must overcome in order to find the light on the other side.

Iain, I too saw these guys in exactly 1987. My freshman year at VCU in Richmond, VA. The show was at ROCKITZ and I think my buddies and I were the only people there. One of the highlights of my college career for sure. Great show, great energy and a great time.

I saw these guys play the Cameo Theater in San Antonio back in, I think it was 1987 or so. There was hardly anyone there, San Antonio being--at least at that time--a crap town for any sort of good music. (Hair bands and cock rock were all the thing.) Anyway, a lot of folks missed out because they put on a great show. Treehouse is a genuine pop gem from that time. I still have my vinyl of it, and it still gets played.
