She's Like Heroin to Me
The Gun Club Lyrics

I see her come down from the top of the stairs
I guess that I'd be cool, but there's a tickle in my veins
I've been a real good tombstone, but now I'm blowing away
But, she will never know that she is there
We sit together drunk like our fathers used to be
I'm looking up and God is saying, "What are you gonna do?"
I'm looking up and I'm crying, "I thought it was up to you!"
But now
She's like heroin to me
She's like heroin to me
She's like heroin to me
She cannot miss a vein
Don't let her take her love to town they will never fill her heart
She needs a passion like her father's used to be
I know, because I'm like the train shooting down the mainline
I know, because I'm like the Indian wind along the telegraph lines
And she's like heroin to me
She's like heroin to me
She's like heroin to me
She cannot miss a vein
So mainline it!
I cannot get a look at it
So, I'm blowing back my trouble to the east
While we sit together sad like our fathers used to be
I know a perfect run by the sleep it puts in my heart
I know my special rider, I can feel her in the dark
She feels like heroin to me
She feels like heroin to me
She's like heroin to me
She cannot miss a vein
The Gun Club's "She's Like Heroin to Me" tells the story of a relationship that is toxic and addictive, much like a drug addiction. The opening line "I cannot get a look at it, so I'm burning them on the deal anyway" suggests a sense of desperation and a willingness to take risks. The singer then describes seeing the woman he is addicted to come down the stairs and feeling a tickle in his veins, implying that he is physically affected by her presence.
Throughout the song, the singer compares the woman to heroin, saying that she is like an eye-blue swimming pool that he cannot resist. He acknowledges that she will never know the hold she has on him and points out that they sit together drunk like their fathers used to be. This suggests a cycle of addiction and unhealthy behavior that has been passed down through generations. The singer seems to be struggling with his addiction and questioning his own decisions, asking God what he should do and expressing confusion about who is in control.
The chorus repeats the phrase "She's like heroin to me" multiple times, emphasizing the addictive nature of the relationship. The final line, "She cannot miss a vein, so mainline it!" implies that the singer is fully giving in to his addiction and is willing to take extreme measures to get his fix.
Overall, "She's Like Heroin to Me" paints a bleak picture of addiction and the destructive power of toxic relationships.

The urgency, potency and bone-scraping sincerity of this song is what makes this band so utterly brilliant. The Gun Club always hits the mark, sounding more alive, locked and loaded than 99.9% of bands trying to generate even a whiff of this commanding sound.

Never ever seen such a power and such a grace and charm in one album. It means, I think, it comes right from the bottom of the soul. Can’t be otherwise
@econogate
A great metaphorical allusion. Addiction and drugs and love, all the same feeling in some sense. You feel a need for it, a desire, then it gets inside you the person gets in your heart and brain and you lose control, a perfect metaphor if there ever were one.
