They have been around since 2006, and are constantly honing and improving their craft. Their line up, consisting of punk-folk acoustic guitar, vocals and drums (with a little piano thrown in for good measure) is certainly not your average indie-rock band and audiences are often taken by surprise at the intensity and quality of the sound created by such a minimal arrangement. The Haiku show that the acoustic guitar does not have to be a quiet instrument.
Each and every show is an energetic performance of incredibly personal songs, which somehow manage to speak to each individual member of the audience. Anyone whoâs ever loved and lost; or been disillusioned with the state of the world; or been frustrated with the unfairness of life; yet enjoyed the feeling of hope for the future, will understand and appreciate what The Haiku have to offer.
Their work ethic is pleasantly different, and you'd be hard pressed to find a band around today who put more effort in. Regular interaction with fans is something the band take very seriously, and they are acutely aware that without people to listen, the band means nothing. Thankfully, people do want to listen, now moreso than ever.
The differences don't stop with the music either. The band are highly professional about how they manage themselves, and are more than happy to remain independent from the standard ârecord companyâ route, to which many bands aspire. Doing it their own way allows them more room to express themselves without compromising, and importantly they can stay close to their fanbase. Every single CD you can buy from their self maintained website, (www.thehaiku.co.uk) - or from one of their numerous gigs around the country, is hand made and often personalised.
Amber

I like to think I'm fine
And maybe I am, or maybe there's a hole
An emptiness that can be filled by you
God knows I wasn't looking for love
It just came and took me by surprise
I'm finding it hard to sleep again
So here's to you
I'll raise my glass in the hope that you'll join me some day
Should I
Should I hold my breath?
Here's to you
I'll raise my glass in the hope that you'll join me some day
Should I
Should I hold my breath?
I don't like to think of it
But I can't control my morning thoughts
The sun comes up and it's you again
Just thinking of the next time I might see you
Keeps my heart going round and round
But Amber helps me and comforts me
So here's to you
I'll raise my glass in the hope that you'll join me some day
Should I
Should I hold my breath?
Here's to you
I'll raise my glass in the hope that you'll join me some day
Should I
Should I hold my breath?
God knows I wasn't looking for love
I was just biding my time
I'm finding it hard to sleep again
But Amber helps me
Amber helps me
It's all changed now
It's all changed now and my head goes round and round
It's all changed now and my head goes round and round
Oh it's all changed now
So here's to you
I'll raise my glass in the hope that you'll join me some day
Should I
Should I hold my breath?
Here's to you
I'll raise my glass in the hope that you'll join me some day
Should I
Should I hold my breath?
It helps me glass by glass
It helps me glass by glass
It helps me glass by glass
It helps me glass by glass
The lyrics to The Haiku's "Amber" tell the story of someone who has found unexpected love and is struggling with the intensity of their feelings. The song begins with the singer confessing that they are often alone in their thoughts, but they try to convince themselves that they are ok. However, they recognize that there is a void that only the object of their affection can fill. Despite not actively looking for love, they have fallen deeply and completely for this person.
The chorus repeats the lines "So here's to you, I'll raise my glass in the hope that you'll join me someday. Should I hold my breath?" This expresses the singer's hope that their love interest will reciprocate their feelings and join them, but they are unsure if they should hold out hope or move on. They turn to amber, which is likely a reference to the color of whiskey, as a way to find solace and cope with their emotions.
In the second verse, the singer acknowledges that they can't control their thoughts, and the thought of their love interest consumes them. They find comfort in the hope of seeing them again, and the repetition of "round and round" highlights the circular nature of their thoughts. The final chorus repeats the same lines as before, but the final lines are "It helps me glass by glass," perhaps implying that the singer is slowly and steadily coming to terms with their feelings.
Overall, "Amber" is a poignant and relatable song about the joys and struggles of falling in love unexpectedly and the uncertainty that comes with it.
