Thinking of You
The Harlequin Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I was doing my best to flag a taxi down
I was thinking of you
I was looking at your photograph
Couldn't help myself I just had to laugh
I was drinking to you
Thinking of you
Thinking of you
Next time around
I was feeling just a bit frustrated
Checked my watch smoked another cigarette and waited
Staring up at the moon
I was dreaming of your tiger skin
How you looked how I felt when you took me in
Licking your silver spoon
I'll be thinking of you
Thinking of you
Thinking of you
Next time around
I'll be thinking of you
Thinking of you
Thinking of you
Next time around
Next time around
Oh
Yes I'll be thinking of you
You'll be thinking of me
Next time around
Thinking of
Thinking of me
Thinking of
Thinking of me
Thinking,
Next time around
Thinking of me
Thinking of me
Thinking of you
Thinking of you
Thinking of me
Next time around
Thinking of me
Thinking of you
Thinking of you
Thinking of you
Thinking of me
Next time around
Yeah
Thinking of me
Thinking of you
Thinking of me
Thinking of you
Thinking of me
Next time around
The Harlequin's song "Thinking of You" tells a story of a person standing on the edge of town, trying to hail a taxi while thinking of someone they miss dearly. They look at a photograph of the person and laugh, then take a sip of their drink while toasting to the thought of them. The waiting time is frustrating, and they smoke a cigarette while gazing at the moon, and they dream of the person's touch and how it made them feel. They imagine watching the person lick a silver spoon, and though they're not physically present, the person thinks of them till they meet again.
The song conveys the ideas of separation, waiting, and longing for someone you love. The singer's thoughts and actions show that they've missed the person so much that they're happy just to think about and dream of them. The repetition of the chorus emphasizes the person's thought about their loved one and how they'll think of one another again.

Believe it or not, I found this album in a cut-out bin in a record store. I thought I might like it so I took it home and this was one of the tracks that immediately caught my attention! Here it is 2022 and I still own the album; practically in pristine condition...

Considering I found the album somewhere in the mid, early 80's, that makes it nearly 40 years old!!!

My claim to fame ! When i was 19 and these guys were just starting out, they played in a seedy little bar in my Lake shore Town. I was cleaning rooms, making beds and attending to guests. My big thrill was when I had just come out from their room, guitars and stuff every where ! But I was gentle and respectful because I had heard them play AND I KNEW they would make it big ! I carefully dusted around and did what was needed in their room and one of the band walked past me, entered the room and did a quick turn around. He startled me but I held my composure. He complimented me on my care and quick efficient cleaning and bed making and remarked how pleased he was I had not disturbed the guitars. I was a musician too in High school so i knew to respect. He pulled a 5er out of his pocket, which was more than double what I made in an hour then. He remorsefully said "it's all i got but it's yours, you did a good job" I thanked him bashfully and floated on air for the rest of the week !
