Another Story
The Head and the Heart Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning | Line by Line Meaning
Burning in your fireplace
I hear your voice and it seems
As if it was all a dream
I wish it was all a dream
I see a world
A world turning in on itself
Are we just like
Hungry wolves howling in the night
I don't want no music tonight
Can we go on like it once was
Every time I hear another story
Oh the poor boy lost his head
Everybody feels a little crazy
But we go on living with it
Yeah they go on living with it
These are just flames
Burning in your fireplace
I hear your voice and it seems
As if it was all a dream
I wish it was all a dream
Can we go on like it once was
Can we go on like it once was
Every time I hear another story
Oh the poor boy lost his head
Everybody feels a little crazy
But we go on living with it
Yeah they go on living with it
I'll tell you one thing
We ain't gonna change much
The sun still rises
Even with the pain
I'll tell you one thing
We ain't gonna change love
The sun still rises
Even through the rain
Can we go on like it once was
Can we go on like it once was
Everybody feels a little crazy
Like it once was
Everybody feels a little crazy
Like it once was
Can we go on like it once was
The lyrics of The Head and the Heart's song "Another Story" paint a poignant picture of the struggles of life and the ongoing nature of personal challenges. The first verse alludes to the idea that our lives are like flames, flickering and fleeting, much like the flames in a fireplace. The narrator expresses a yearning for a world where things were better, where there was less pain, less confusion and less madness. They seem to be searching for a way to return to a time when everything seemed simpler and happier.
The second verse delves deeper into this idea, as it poses the question of whether we are like hungry wolves howling in the night, unable to control our primal instincts. The narrator also wishes for silence, indicating an avoidance of distractions, including music. The chorus of the song conveys a sense of desperation, as the narrator hears another story of someone who has lost their way in life. However, the song ends on a hopeful note, as the sun still rises, and the narrator believes that love will always remain even in the face of pain and hardship.

Composed primarily of transplants to the Seattle area, The Head and the Heart write and play songs that speak to the newness of a fresh start Read Full BioThe Head and the Heart is an American indie-folk band which formed in 2009 in Seattle, Washington, United States. The band consists of Josiah Johnson (vocals, guitar), Jonathan Russell (vocals, guitar), Charity Rose Thielen (violin, vocals), Chris Zasche (bass), Kenny Hensley (keyboards) and Tyler Williams (drums).
Composed primarily of transplants to the Seattle area, The Head and the Heart write and play songs that speak to the newness of a fresh start, of the ghosts left behind, of moving forward, all brimming with a soulfulness and hope for a better life than the one we've all been sold.
Stylistically, think a folksy Beatles or The Avett Brothers with a little extra oomph. Catchy piano melodies stand side by side with a tight trio of harmonies, and solid minimalist drums, groovin' bass, and plenty of hand percussion and foot stomps make the live show inspiring and really goddamn fun.
After the band self-released its eponymous debut album in June 2010, the emblematic Seattle label Sub Pop re-released the album. For the Sub Pop version, the song “Sounds like Hallelujah” has been re-recorded, live favorite “Rivers and Roads” has been added, and the album has been re-mastered.
The band's second album "Let's Be Still" was released on October 15, 2013.
The band released their third studio album, "Signs of Light", in September 2016.
The band's fourth album, "Living Mirage", was released in May 2019.
Band member Josiah Johnson released his debut solo album, "Every Feeling On a Loop", in September 2020.

I listened to this song 1000 times in the days surrounding my sister's death. This song allowed me to cry and to grieve and we played it at her memorial.
But...
I wish it was all a dream.
Can't it all just be a bad dream?
Can't we all just wake up now?
No?
Didn't think so.
