Rhythm & Blues
The Head and the Heart Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning | Line by Line Meaning

Ain't it nice to be so lucky
Ain't it nice to be so loved
Oh, come on darlin', won't you let me
Won't you let me drive you home

'Cause I've had the rhythm and blues since the day you met me
Stepped on my blue suede shoes, watch Elvis go crazy
Oh, come on darlin', won't you let me

Won't you let me turn you on

'Cause no one likes to be so lonely
No one likes to feel alone
Oh, come on darlin', won't you let me
Won't you let me drive you home
I'll drive you home

Oh, come on darlin', won't you let me
Won't you let me turn you on

I know my faithful mind is so blind
I've been running out on everyone and everything 'til now
If it's Monday or Sunday

Well, I've got the rhythm and blues since the day you met me
Stepped on my blue suede shoes you made Elvis go crazy

Oh, come on darlin', won't you let me
Won't you let me turn you on

Overall Meaning

In this song, The Head and the Heart talk about the power of love to heal and transform one's life. The singer expresses how lucky and loved he feels, and asks his partner to let him drive her home and turn her on. He admits that he has been struggling with the rhythm and blues since the day they met, but with her love and support, he has found a new joy and purpose in life.

The reference to Elvis and his blue suede shoes seems to suggest that the singer is struggling to fit in and express himself in a world that has certain expectations and norms. However, his partner's love and acceptance have given him the confidence to be himself and pursue his passions. The idea of driving home and turning on also suggests a sense of intimacy and connection, as if the singer wants to share a deeper level of understanding and affection with his partner.

Overall, this song is about the redemptive power of love and how it can transform even the most broken and lost souls. It's a reminder that no matter how lonely or lost we may feel, there is always someone out there who can help us find our way home.

The Head And The Heart

We've been anxiously awaiting the day to drop our music video for "Rhythm & Blues," and that day has finally arrived! After going nostalgic and sentimental for the "All We Ever Knew" video, we decided to team up with the great director, Michael Reich, for "Rhythm & Blues." Michael ended up creating something truly weird, inspiring and ultimately, US, through the process. We took much inspiration from videos we grew up watching in the 90s (if you can't tell, we've been feeling that decade a lot lately) and fused their aesthetics and energy with an idea Kenny had working in his brain. Many thanks to Matt Hopper for playing our electric frontman and all the local LA actors and uniquely awesome people who helped make this such a fun one for us. We are pleased to present the Michael Reich-directed visual accompaniment for "Rhythm & Blues." Thanks for watching!

Much love and gratitude,
Jon, Josiah, Charity, Tyler, Chris and Kenny

You guys rock! see you in sandpoint and boise(front row). We have an extra seat for Matt Hopper. He could hop right up and play a song with you(oh idk, false alarm), or he could dance to this song. Thank You for seeing the great talent that he is. Any more support will be justified just like this video. You have fans for life among team hopper.
