Simple Song
The HeeBeeGeeBees Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
To write a symphony
But ended up with a simple tune
As simple as A-B...
-C
Jack and Jill went up that hill
The hill was very green
Carrying a bu-u-u-
Them ohoh
Sing a song, a simple song
A song that's clean and nice
Sing it once then once again
And that means singing it twice
This song that's nice and nice
Oh, oh-oh oh
Oh, oh-oh oh
Now we come to the second verse
In which I'm singing in now
I wonder what I should say in it
Oh well, it's over anyhow
And so instead I'll...
Sing a song, a simple song
As simple as they come
Taking care not to offend
The record-buying mums
By avoiding words like *beep* bums
Oh, oh-oh oh
Oh, oh-oh oh
And I have got my wife here with me
She may be playing in a different key
But I love her and she loves me because you see
To be in love as lovers is so lovely
(And we'll sing 'ooh')
(And we'll sing 'ahh')
(And we'll sing hooray)
(Who gives a monkey's what we sing)
(It's bound to pay)
Oh
Sing a song, a simple song
A song that's clean and nice
Sing a song, a simple song
Not a cymbal song, that's right
Sing it once, then once again
And that means singing it twice
This song that's clean and nice
Sing, sing it....
Twice....
Ooh
The HeeBeeGeeBees's song "Simple Song" is a humorous take on simplistic songwriting. The lyrics start with a fool sitting on a hill trying to write a symphony but ending up with a simple tune as simple as A-B-C. Then, the song adds a nursery rhyme reference to Jack and Jill going up the same hill carrying a bucket between them. The chorus urges listeners to sing a song, a simple song that's clean and nice, and sing it twice.
The second verse of the song continues with the same style of humorous lyrics, with the singer not having anything significant to say in the verse but shifting the focus back on the chorus. The third verse gets personal as the singer points out that they have their wife with them, and they love each other, bringing in some harmonizing "oohs and aahs."
Overall, the song pokes fun at simplistic songwriting and emphasizes the importance of simplicity in a catchy tune. It's a lighthearted song that doesn't take itself too seriously and is a parody of simple songs that are easy to sing along to.

He got the "Wings" STYLE perfectly though. It's the stylistic parodies that make the entire album a work of genius - rather than parodying particular songs a la Weird Al, these are original songs that capture the artist's styles and take the complete piss out of them.
