The band released their Swedish Grammi-winning debut album "Supershitty to the Max!" in 1996. Just before a tour opening for Kiss, the band recruited keyboardist and percussionist Anders Lindström (also known as Boba Fett or Boba) on a part-time basis; he would become a full-time member in 1999. After the album "Payin' the Dues" in 1998, Dregen left the band to return to Backyard Babies full-time, and Mattias Hellberg and Danne Andersson were recruited to complete the band's touring responsibilities. After the release of "Grande Rock", which featured additional guitar playing from both Lindström and Hellberg, Robert Dahlqvist was hired as a full-time lead guitarist in 1999. With the lineup now solidified, the band released three more studio albums and a cover album, with many EPs and limited-edition releases as well. The Hellacopters disbanded amicably in 2008 so the members could move on to other projects. Eight years later, the band reassembled in 2016, initially for an exclusive performance at Sweden Rock Festival to celebrate the 20-year anniversary of their award-winning debut album "Supershitty to the Max!".
In October 2021, the band announced that they had signed with the record label Nuclear Blast to release a new album in the spring of 2022. The album, "Eyes of Oblivion", was released on April 1, 2022.

As i opened up my bloodshot eyes
Do i really wanna know
Where i've been or where i've put my nose
I'm in a rut
Keep kicking myself in the nuts
In a stairwell i seek
So i'm back again it's ok
Well be that as it may
Over and over away
Into the fires unknown
Into obliveon through sticks and stones
Pick up the phone - my jacks are all blown
Oh these nights out alone
Come carry me home
A habit hard to break
Take me home good lord for heavens sake
The doctor's not in
Got no cure for the medicine
So i'm back again it's ok
Well be that as it may
Over and over away
Into the fires unknown
Into obliveon through sticks and stones
Pick up the phone - listen to me moan
Oh these nights out alone
Come carry me home
Everytime i make the round i turn around
I'm put upon the rack
Everytime i stand up i fall flat on my face
And break my back - tombstoned and chickenshacked
The lyrics of "Carry Me Home" by The Hellacopters speak to the struggles of addiction and the desire for escape from its grip. The singer wakes up, feeling paralyzed and unable to recall the events of the night before. He questions whether he really wants to know what he did or where he put his nose. With a sense of self-disgust, he acknowledges that he is in a rut and can't seem to escape his addiction. He seeks out his dealer's lair to satisfy his dirty habit but realizes that it's a hard cycle to break.
The chorus of the song finds the singer calling out for someone to carry him home, to rescue him from the vicious cycle of addiction. He asks for the Lord's help, acknowledging that it's a habit that's hard to break. The singer feels trapped and unable to get help from a doctor or cure from medicine. He admits that every time he tries to escape this cycle, he falls flat on his face, ultimately feeling tombstoned and chickenshacked.
Overall, "Carry Me Home" is an emotionally honest portrayal of the struggle to escape addiction. The singer is self-aware but feels trapped in a cycle that he cannot break. Its gritty lyrics and driving rock music provide an anthemic quality that resonates deeply with the listener.
