The band released their Swedish Grammi-winning debut album "Supershitty to the Max!" in 1996. Just before a tour opening for Kiss, the band recruited keyboardist and percussionist Anders Lindström (also known as Boba Fett or Boba) on a part-time basis; he would become a full-time member in 1999. After the album "Payin' the Dues" in 1998, Dregen left the band to return to Backyard Babies full-time, and Mattias Hellberg and Danne Andersson were recruited to complete the band's touring responsibilities. After the release of "Grande Rock", which featured additional guitar playing from both Lindström and Hellberg, Robert Dahlqvist was hired as a full-time lead guitarist in 1999. With the lineup now solidified, the band released three more studio albums and a cover album, with many EPs and limited-edition releases as well. The Hellacopters disbanded amicably in 2008 so the members could move on to other projects. Eight years later, the band reassembled in 2016, initially for an exclusive performance at Sweden Rock Festival to celebrate the 20-year anniversary of their award-winning debut album "Supershitty to the Max!".
In October 2021, the band announced that they had signed with the record label Nuclear Blast to release a new album in the spring of 2022. The album, "Eyes of Oblivion", was released on April 1, 2022.

But i had to lay down i was feeling beat
From a race i really thought i could win
I was beat before i even had a chance to begin
How could i evre believe i'd do fine
Against my invincible opponent and no finishing line
Gotta slow down gotta learn how to dance
It's flying by while i'm stuck in my seat
I would need a starship to compete
To get me off of my knees
Time got no time to wait for me
I was looking for the times that i spent
Looked at yesterday for where the hell it went
I even checked the year before that
You know i checked everywhere but where it was at
Right here and now is the place
Where i might catch a glimpse before it's gone without a trace
Gotta slow down gotta learn how to dance
If i can't keep up i haven't got a chance
It's flying by while i'm stuck in my seat
I would need a starship to compete
To get me off of my knees
Time got no time to wait for me
The Hellacopters' song "On Time" is an intense and lively rock song that touches upon the theme of life-long companionship, albeit in a somewhat unconventional way. The song's lyrics revolve around a mysterious figure who pledges to remain with the singer till their very last day, regardless of whether they end up in an institution or face personal doubts and fears. The singer makes it clear that they are not always easy to handle, frequently causing their companion to feel nervous and uncertain, yet they never lie.
The song's intriguing lyrics suggest that the singer embodies a range of contradictory emotions and qualities, such as anticipation and deception, adolescent and senile traits, and a tendency to provoke their companion while also providing some kind of emotional support. The singer's message to the listener is that they always manage to arrive on time, and hence, they represent the contrary picture of what is expected of them, which could mean that the singer's life may be unconventional or unstructured.
Overall, "On Time" is an enigmatic and impressive song that tackles complex themes such as companionship and individuality, while also delivering a catchy and fast-paced rock tune that is sure to get listeners moving and grooving.
