Willie suggested going for a swim on a beautiful summer morning.

But as they were walking all down a long lane
While they were strolling down a lengthy path.

Who should they meet with but a keeper of game
They ran into a gamekeeper.

The gamekeeper warned Willie not to go swimming.

There's deep and false waters in the lakes of Cool Flynn
The gamekeeper told them about the deep and dangerous waters of the lake.

Young Willie jumped in and he swam the lake round
Willie went for a swim and managed to swim around the lake.

Till he came to an island but not the right ground
He made it to an island, but it wasn't where he intended to go.

Willie warned his friends not to follow him into the lake.

Willie reiterated the gamekeeper's warning about the dangerous waters.

It was later that morning Willie's sister arose
Later that day, Willie's sister woke up.

And straight to her mother's bedchamber she goes
She went to her mother's room right away.

Saying mother, dearest mother, I have had a strange dream
She told her mother about a strange dream she had.

Young Willie lies floating in a watery stream
In the dream, she saw Willie's body floating in the water.

It was later that morning Willies mother got there
Later that morning, Willie's mother arrived.

Wringing her hands and tearing her hair
She was visibly upset and distressed.

Saying where was he drowned where did he fall in?
She wanted to know where Willie drowned, and how he fell into the water.

There's death in false waters in the lakes of Cool Flynn
She realized that Willie drowned in the dangerous waters despite the warning.

O the day of his funeral it was such a fine sight
On the day of Willie's funeral, it was a beautiful ceremony.

With four and twenty young men and they're all dressed in white
There were twenty-four young men at the funeral, all dressed in white.

Four and twenty young men to lay him in cold clay
The young men were there to bury Willie in the cold ground.

Said adieu to young Willie and they all marched away
They said goodbye to Willie and left after the burial.
