Headlights
The Heydaze Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Try to fight the demons
That I should be leaving
Nothing to believe in
When I try to explain
What I'm dying to say
All the words just
Out of time, out of place
Got no reason to stay
But I gotta escape
Driving with no headlights
Out here on our own
Running through the red lights
Searching for a home
Because the road
Doesnt care who's right
And who is wrong
Driving with no headlights
Lost but not alone
Throw out the illusion
Cut out the confusion
Pull up to the crossroads
Of what they say is good
And what I want
When I try to explain
What I'm dying to say
All the words just
Get in the way
Out of time, out of place
Got no reason to stay
But I gotta escape
Driving with no headlights
Out here on our own
Running through the red lights
Searching for a home
Because the road
Doesnt care who's right
And who is wrong
Driving with no headlights
Lost but not alone
Try to find the reasons
Try to fight the demons
Driving with no headlights
Out here on our own
Running through the red lights
Searching for a home
Because the road
Doesnt care who's right
And who is wrong
Driving with no headlights
Lost but not alone
The Heydaze's song, "Headlights" explores themes like trying to find meaning and purpose while fighting off inner struggles and confusion. The lyrics suggest that the song's protagonist is searching for a way out and wants to leave their current situation, but they are unable to articulate their feelings. The song's chorus, "Driving with no headlights, out here on our own, running through the red lights, searching for a home," is a metaphor for this feeling of being lost and confused.
The song also touches on the idea that there is a disconnect between what others think is good for us, and what we want for ourselves. The line, "Pull up to the crossroads of what they say is good and what I want," suggests that the singer is struggling to reconcile these two ideas.
The repeated refrain of "Try to find the reasons, try to fight the demons," highlights the ongoing struggle that the singer is going through, and suggests that they are battling against inner demons or negative thought patterns that are holding them back.
Overall, "Headlights" is a song about feeling lost and searching for a way to escape. The lyrics convey a sense of urgency, as the singer feels like they are running out of time and needs to take action before it's too late.

Touch down on the red eye
I got red eyes too
Headache from the red wine
No sleep when I think about you
When I think about you
Cold sweat on a hot night
A little late night caffiene
Keep me from my own mind
No sleep when I dream about you
When I dream about you
If I stop for a minute
If I sink back in it
It'll hurt like hell
If I slip for a minute
If I stop forgetting
It'll hurt like hell
Yeah, you hurt like hell
First bite in a long time
Reading last weeks news
Hit snooze for the third time
No sleep when I sleep without you
When I sleep without you
If I stop for a minute
If I sink back in it
It'll hurt like hell
If I slip for a minute
If I stop forgetting
It'll hurt like hell
Yeah, you hurt like hell x5
Don't let it be, let it be
All at once
Don't let it be, let it be
All at once
If I stop for a minute
If I sink back in it
It'll hurt like hell
If I slip for a minute
If I stop forgetting
It'll hurt like hell
Yeah, you hurt like hell x5

This is such an underrated song!
It came out right when I lost my mom, and it really describes how I felt the first year or so, just going around in a daze, until it hit me and I would have to go find a quiet place to cry. Looking back, even though I was functioning, I was really out of my mind.
