Seven Nation Army
The High Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'm gonna fight 'em all
A seven nation army couldn't hold me back
They're gonna rip it off
Taking their time right behind my back
And I'm talking to myself at night
Because I can't forget
Behind a cigarette
And the message coming from my eyes
Says, ""Leave it alone""
Don't wanna hear about it
Every single one's got a story to tell
Everyone knows about it
From the Queen of England to the Hounds of Hell
And if I catch it coming back my way
I'm gonna serve it to you
And that ain't what you want to hear
But that's what I'll do
And the feeling coming from my bones
Says, ""Find a home""
The lyrics to The High's song, Seven Nation Army, are quite enigmatic, but they are open to interpretation. Overall, the song seems to be about one person's struggle to overcome adversity and the obstacles that stand in their way. The lyrics suggest that the singer is determined to fight and overcome anything that gets in their path, regardless of how many people or nations are against them. The seven nation army mentioned represents those who try to hold the singer back but are ultimately unsuccessful in doing so.
The lyrics also suggest an inner turmoil that the singer is experiencing. They talk to themselves at night and can't forget something that keeps going back and forth in their mind. The message coming from their eyes tells others to leave them alone and not try to interfere with their struggle. They also seem to believe that everyone has a story to tell and that the struggles they face are common to all people, from the Queen of England to the Hounds of Hell.
The last line of the song, "And the feeling coming from my bones says, 'Find a home'" is a reminder that despite the struggles, the singer is looking for a place where they belong and where they can find peace. In many ways, the song is a reflection of the human spirit and the desire to keep fighting, no matter what the odds.
