Caracas
The Hollies Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Gonna fade my jeans in the deep blue sea
Wash my cares away
Feelin' the breeze going through the trees
Just the music of the day

Oh, going to Caracas
Beautiful town when the lights go down
Dance the night away
Drinkin' the wines make me feel fine
That's what the people say

Oh, Caracas
Come to the show and let yourself go
There's magic in the air
Come a long way to make your day
You gonna show you that we care

Oh, going to Caracas
Oh, I'm going to Caracas

Almost there, got my ticket, paid my fare
Almost there, stop us if you dare

Oh, almost there, got my ticket, paid my fare
Almost there, yeah, stop us if you dare

Fade my jeans in the deep blue sea
Gonna wash my cares away
Feelin' the breeze going through the trees
Just the music of the day

Oh, going to Caracas
Oh, going to Caracas

Overall Meaning

The Hollies’s song Caracas encapsulates the free-spirited vibe of the 1960s with a catchy melody and lyrics that describe the excitement of heading to the beautiful town of Caracas. The song talks about a carefree traveler who is looking to escape their worries and wash it all away by fading their jeans in the deep blue sea. The idea behind this is to let go of all the stress and anxiety and just enjoy the music of the day.

The next verse in the song talks about how beautiful Caracas is when the lights go down. The traveler wants to dance the night away and drink wine, which makes them feel fine. The line “That’s what the people say” implies that Caracas is known for its lively night scene where the locals and tourists alike come together to party every night.

The third verse brings in the idea of magic, with the line “There's magic in the air” suggesting that anything is possible in Caracas. The song then emphasizes the idea of traveling by talking about how the traveler has come a long way to make their day, and the band is there to show they care. Overall, Caracas is a hopeful and uplifting song that encourages listeners to let go of their worries and enjoy the moment.
