The Honorary Title was a rock band from Brooklyn, New York composed of Jarrod Gorbel, Aaron Kamstra, Jon Wiley, and Adam Boyd. Gorbel became known for his dark sense of humor, which often worked its way into the band's songs.
Their first release was a self-titled EP. They received much attention and did major touring after they released a full length album on Doghouse Records in 2004 entitled, "Anything Else But the Truth". The album was recorded in Nashville and New York with producer Roger Moutenot who has also worked with Yo La Tengo and Guster. Videos are available for the singles "Everything I Once Had", "Bridge and Tunnel", & "Frame by Frame".
On October 24, 2009 Jarrod announced that The Honorary Title would play their final show on Friday, November 20, 2009. Gorbel released a solo EP called Ten Years Older on his 2010 acoustic tour with Dustin Dobernig. In an interview with weworemasks.com, Gorbel says, "It’s considered a solo session, but…The Honorary Title might be over." He also said he is working on a solo LP. He continues to record and play music, but under his name.

Let go of the hand that holds me high above that great divide
And beauty is the ease required for you to understand
That single frame of animation
I think you know
I think you know
I appear unfamiliar but these prints can't lie
I realize when you wake up that sometimes
I appear unfamiliar but these prints can't lie
These prints can't lie
Possessing all the features I've predetermined to objectify
Effortless and rubenesque, yet so perfectly-ly aligned
And beauty is the ease required for you to understand
That single frame of animation
I think you know
I think you know
I realise when you wake up that sometimes
I appear unfamiliar but these prints can't lie
I realize when you wake up that sometimes
I appear unfamiliar but these prints can't lie
Nine or ten songs I had let pass before
I had broke that first thought progression
And there we were, in the same restaurant grazing legs underneath the table
And I will always, always
I will watch over you
I will always, always
I will watch over you
Over you, over you
I realize when you wake up that sometimes
I appear unfamiliar but these prints can't lie
I realize when you wake up that sometimes
I appear unfamiliar but these prints can't lie
These prints can't lie
I want you back
This means untouched and intact
(You always were so critical)
I want you back
This means untouched and intact
(You always were so critical)
I want you back
This means untouched and intact
(You always were so critical)
I want you back
This means untouched and intact
The Honorary Title's "Untouched and Intact" uses vivid imagery to explore the aftermath of a lost relationship. The introductory lines of the song describe a metaphorical "great divide" that separates the singer from his former partner, and hints at the internal struggle of deciding to move on or hold onto the memories of what was. The chorus echoes the sentiment that even though things have changed, the singer's love remains, declaring that "These prints can't lie."
In the second verse, the singer dehumanizes their past partner by reducing them to a mere list of physical attributes that are "effortless and rubenesque, yet so perfectly-ly aligned." However, despite the clear hurt feelings and struggle to move on, the ending of the song is far more hopeful. The bridge describes a fortuitous moment of reuniting with someone from the past, which may bring perspective and closure to the experience.
Overall, the song seems to be about coming to terms with a lost love, and moving forward while still holding onto the memories of what once was. The use of vivid and poetic language, as well as a heavy reliance on metaphors, sets the song apart from more straightforward break-up ballads.
