Jerusalem
The Hoppers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
John saw the city, oh yes he did
John caught a glimpse of the golden throne
Tell me all about it, go right on
Around the throne he saw the crystal sea
There's got to be more, what will it be
I want to go, to that city he saw
New Jerusalem
Jerusalem
I want to walk your streets that are golden
And I want to run where the angels have trod
Jerusalem
I want to rest on the banks of your river
In that city, the city of God
John saw the lion lay down by the lamb
I want to know everything about that land
John saw the day but he did not see night
The lamb of God well, he must be the light
And he saw the saints worship the great I am
Crying worthy, worthy is the lamb
I want to go to that city he saw
New Jerusalem
Jerusalem
I want to walk your streets that are golden
And I want to run where the angels have trod
Jerusalem
I want to rest on the banks of your river
In that city, the city of God
Jerusalem, Jerusalem
Sing for the night is over
Hosanna in the highest
Hosanna forever
Forever more
Jerusalem
I want to walk your streets that are golden
And I want to run where the angels have trod
Jerusalem
I want to rest on the banks of your river
In that city, the city of God
The city of God
Jerusalem, Jerusalem
The city of God, is the city of God
The lyrics of The Hoppers' song "Jerusalem" are a poetic description of the vision that the biblical figure John had in the Book of Revelation. John saw a city that was beyond earthly conception, a city that could not be hidden, and he caught a glimpse of the golden throne. This is a reference to the throne of God described in Revelation 4:2-3, which is surrounded by a rainbow and shining like jasper and sardius stones. John also saw around the throne a crystal sea, symbolizing purity and clarity, and he longed to know more.
The song also references the prophecies of Isaiah and Ezekiel about the Messiah's reign, including the image of the lion lying down by the lamb. The lamb of God, in Christian theology, refers to Jesus Christ, who sacrificed himself for the sake of humanity. The saints worship the great "I am," another reference to God in his divine and infinite essence. All of these elements point to the ultimate destination of believers, a new Jerusalem, where they will rest on the banks of the river and walk on streets of gold.

his song makes me yearn to see what John saw in heaven. I have suffered all manner of losses in life. I know the loss of health, relationships, material possessions and even loved ones. Every time I listen to this song, my thoughts turn heaven bound and imagine what it must be like where loss does not exist or pain! I long for the New Jerusalem, the city of God! It gives me hope to soldier on for the price is more than this world can ever give me. New Jerusalem, where the only visa that is required is accepting Jesus as Your Savior to receive everlasting life in that city! No sin and no loss..... Thank you for this song of hope and God bless your ministry.

I was homeless and without hope back in 2010 I had just gotten out of a mental ward and had no where to go so I ended up at the Rockford Rescue Mission in Rockford Illinois in the mens crisis part of the mission. Everyday before dinner time us in the shelter and also the public would be required to sit through a sermon before dinner either it was someone from the mission preaching the sermon or it was an outside evangelist or church that would come in... But I remember one day a woman from and outside church came in and sang this song.... I was touched in ways ive never known before and so the Lord began his work on me and I cant begin to explain the road ive traveled since then but I got rought to the Lord in 2013 and have been a Mighty work in progress sense... I love this song and thank you for allowing the Lord to use you to spread his message.... This song brought me to my knees.... Still does when I listen to it..
