Crush
The Horrible Crowes Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Pour yourself a drink
I'll sing you a song
Don't worry about the money, honey
I got a tab a mile long
Bathe me up in light
Call me when you drown
I can wait all night
I've spent my whole life
Less up than my downs

I know a secret everybody tell
Who goes to heaven, who goes to hell
And I know one thing sure is true
I never kept a secret
I got a crush on you

You're everybody's dream
Out on the schoolboy yard
They tumble like an injury
Just about you all night long
All night long
And there was a fire
In your breast and in my brain
Your fingers on my fingertips
Making lines in the windowpane

I know a secret everybody tell
Who goes to heaven, who goes to hell
And I know one thing sure is true
I never kept a secret
I got a crush on you

If you should go there before I do
God's gonna trouble the water
Tell all my friends that I'm coming too
God's gonna trouble the water
Sometimes I'm up, lord, and sometimes I'm down
God's gonna trouble the water
Sometimes I'm almost level with the ground
God's gonna trouble the water

If you should go there before I do
God's gonna trouble the water
Tell all my friends that I'm coming too
And God's gonna trouble the water
Sometimes I'm up, lord, and sometimes I'm down
God's gonna trouble the water
And sometimes I'm almost level with the ground
God's gonna trouble the water

I got a crush on you

Overall Meaning

In this song, The Horrible Crowes singer is inviting someone to share a drink with him and promises to sing them a song. He tells them not to worry about the money as he has a long tab. He then describes his love interest as someone who is adored by many and seems to be everyone's dream, with schoolboys fighting over her. He talks about how there was a fire in her chest and in his brain, meaning that she has ignited a passionate spark in him. He then confesses that he has a crush on her, which is the secret that he has never kept from anyone.

The song seems to be about unrequited love and the longing to be with someone who is out of reach. The singer is aware that his love interest is desired by many, but he can't help how he feels about her. The lyrics are melancholic, with the singer admitting that he has spent his whole life experiencing more downs than ups, which adds to the somber mood of the song. The repeated chorus of "God's gonna trouble the water" could be interpreted as a metaphor for the trouble and turmoil that comes with unrequited love.

Great song and powerful lyrics

@EpicTaleMedia

I keep seeing people saying his voice needs work, or his voice is mediocre.... I don't get those statements. To me his voice has no imperfections, not everyones voice has to sound crystal clear and smooth. Love all Brian Fallon music. His music helps me through everyday bullshit.
