The Gloves single arrived early in 2007, heralding the release of the Horrors' full-length debut, Strange House, which arrived in the U.K. that March and in the U.S. in May. In 2008, Webb and Furse formed the analog synth project Spider & the Flies, and released the album Something Clockwork This Way Comes. For 2009's Primary Colours, the band worked with Cunningham and Portishead's Geoff Barrow as co-producers, opting for a very different sound that mixed shoegaze, post-punk, and goth; the album was released by XL that spring and earned several critical raves, including NME's Album of the Year. In between albums, Badwan teamed with Canadian opera singer Rachel Zeffira for the hazy pop project Cat's Eyes, which released its self-titled debut in early 2011. The Horrors self-produced their follow-up, 2011's Skying, which featured a lighter yet still atmospheric sound that drew comparisons to My Bloody Valentine and the Psychedelic Furs. In 2012, they released the remix companion album Higher and embarked on an extensive tour. In 2013, they began recording new material with producer Craig Silvey. Early the following year, the single "I See You" reflected the more expansive direction of their fourth album, Luminous, which arrived in May 2014. The Horrors began work on their next full-length with Paul Epworth at London's Church Studios in 2015, and forged a darker, rawer yet still danceable sound that borrowed from '80s post-punk, synth-pop, and '90s dance. The result was V, which arrived in September 2017.

The Horrors Lyrics

Sleepwalking across town.
She's living deep in a spell,
Now you're not around.
I wish you could see how she is now,
Thinking all about you.
Her world is broken in two,
Don't know what to do.
I'm falling, far as I can go
And you, falling, nowhere left to go.
Still living deep in the spell now,
He moved back across town.
He's been trying to keep you alive,
One day at a time.
See him then the moment is gone,
Walking alone.
You find it hard to know what to say,
Though you feel the same.
I'm falling, far as I can go
And you, falling, nowhere left to go.
I'm falling, far as I can go
And you, you're falling away from the world,
It's been so long.
Oh what did you say to her, oh what did you say,
You're lying now it's over, oh it's over.
Oh what did you sacrifice, oh what did you say,
You're lying now it's over, oh it's over.
Oh there's nowhere, nowhere to go
In Sleepwalk, The Horrors describe the aftermath of a breakup and the toll it takes on both parties. The song begins with the perspective of someone who is aware of the pain his friend's ex-girlfriend is going through. He seems to feel responsible for her well-being, as he watches her sleepwalk through life. He wishes that her former partner could see the state she is in because she is still thinking about him and cannot move on. The girl's world is shattered, and she does not know what to do to pick up the pieces. The chorus highlights their falling apart, with the singer reaching the depths of his despair, while the girl seems to be moving away from the chaos.
Moving forward, the song switches to the perspective of the man who left the girl. He moved across town and is now trying to keep himself together, one day at a time. He sees the girl occasionally, but the moments are fleeting, and his attempts to connect with her are met with ambivalence. He is also struggling with the pain of the breakup, finding it hard to move on. The chorus describes their falling apart, with both characters in different stages of their journey. The song ends with the realization that there is nowhere left to go, and their story has reached its conclusion.
Overall, Sleepwalk is a poignant portrait of the aftermath of a relationship's end, with both characters struggling to move on from the hurt and trauma inflicted.
