The Gloves single arrived early in 2007, heralding the release of the Horrors' full-length debut, Strange House, which arrived in the U.K. that March and in the U.S. in May. In 2008, Webb and Furse formed the analog synth project Spider & the Flies, and released the album Something Clockwork This Way Comes. For 2009's Primary Colours, the band worked with Cunningham and Portishead's Geoff Barrow as co-producers, opting for a very different sound that mixed shoegaze, post-punk, and goth; the album was released by XL that spring and earned several critical raves, including NME's Album of the Year. In between albums, Badwan teamed with Canadian opera singer Rachel Zeffira for the hazy pop project Cat's Eyes, which released its self-titled debut in early 2011. The Horrors self-produced their follow-up, 2011's Skying, which featured a lighter yet still atmospheric sound that drew comparisons to My Bloody Valentine and the Psychedelic Furs. In 2012, they released the remix companion album Higher and embarked on an extensive tour. In 2013, they began recording new material with producer Craig Silvey. Early the following year, the single "I See You" reflected the more expansive direction of their fourth album, Luminous, which arrived in May 2014. The Horrors began work on their next full-length with Paul Epworth at London's Church Studios in 2015, and forged a darker, rawer yet still danceable sound that borrowed from '80s post-punk, synth-pop, and '90s dance. The result was V, which arrived in September 2017.

You Said
The Horrors Lyrics

And the whispers had washed you away
Held yourself at the window
But the rivers were turning your head
You said I had what I came for
And the whispers had washed you away
Held yourself at the window
After the crash,
After the crash come the waves
And leave you with nothing
At least next to nothing
You've got to give me love
You've got to give me more
You've got to give me love
You've got to give me more
Now the echoes are endless
Whenever you say it aloud
All the whispers are heavy
And the whispers they wear you down
After the crash come the days
After the crash come the waves
And leave you with nothing
At least next to nothing
You've got to give me love
You've got to give me more
You've got to give me love
You've got to give me more
Stretching far into another night
A landscape with no heart
And no one sees her above
Oh there's nothing more to it now
Put aside and forgotten
Barely left alive
And forgotten too far gone to see you
And her eyes are too far gone to know
And her eyes are too far gone to know
You've got to give me love
You've got to give me more
You've got to give me love
You've got to give me more
You've got to give me love
You've got to give me more
You've got to give me love
You've got to give me more
The opening lines of "You Said" present a sense of detachment and disillusionment. The singer is being told by someone, possibly a lover or a friend, that they have what they came for, indicating that they have achieved some kind of goal or fulfillment. However, this statement is quickly followed by the revelation that the whispers have washed away this person, leaving the singer feeling alone and disconnected. The image of the person holding themselves at the window, while the rivers turn their head, further emphasizes this sense of being lost and helpless.
As the song progresses, it becomes clear that the singer is struggling to find meaning and purpose in their life, and is searching for someone to give them love and more. The repeated pleading for love and more suggests a deep sense of emptiness and longing, and the idea that the singer is willing to give up anything to feel fulfilled.
The final lines of the song describe a landscape without a heart, and the singer feeling forgotten and barely alive. They are too far gone to see someone who might be trying to help them, and their eyes cannot even recognize this person. The song presents a bleak portrait of disconnection and the search for a sense of meaning and purpose in life.

The situation I find myself in stretches on into another endless night, and it feels like there's no human emotion left behind it. Nobody can see me as a person anymore, and it seems like there's nothing more that can be done to help the situation. I've been abandoned and nearly destroyed, too far gone to even recognize the people I used to know, and they cannot recognize me either.
You've got to give me love
