I'm In Love
The Hot Shots Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Every night in dream I hold you close in my arms,
Your dream caress brings happiness,
How I fear the break of day that takes you away,
Hear my plea, come to me, I'm lonely.
Come out of my dream, come into my arms,
For I'm so in love with you,
You're with me till dawn,
But then you are gone,
I'm lonely the whole day through,
Each night I pray that with the sunrise,
I'll find I'm looking into your eyes,
Come out of my dreams, come into my arms,
For I'm so in love with you.
Come out of my dream, come into my arms,
For I'm so in love with you,
You're with me till dawn,
But then you are gone,
I'm lonely the whole day through,
Each night I pray that with the sunrise,
I'll find I'm looking into your eyes,

Come out of my dreams, come into my arms,
For I'm so in love with you.

Overall Meaning

The Hot Shots' song "I'm in Love" expresses the longing for a dream lover to come to life. The lyrics describe the dreamer's nightly experiences of holding his love in his arms, feeling happy and content. However, the dream always ends with the break of day, leaving the dreamer lonely and longing for the dream lover to materialize in reality. He implores the lover to come out of his dream and into his arms, revealing his deep love for her. The dreamer's loneliness is emphasized by the repetition of this theme throughout the song, as he prays each night to see his lover's eyes at sunrise.

The song "I'm in Love" is an emotional representation of the power of love, including its ability to create fantasies and illusions. It speaks to the universal experience of loving someone and wishing they could be with you, even if it's only in a dream world. This song invites the listener to imagine what it would be like to be in the dreamer's position, someone who longs for love and companionship.

When I was a kid, I didn't understand this scene but it always made me crack up. Now I think it's one of the best meta jokes in the wholeness of existence.

@cheese165

Agreed.

@alfredstimoli2590

@HoshinoOtaku98 ➸ (悲しい魚) Martin Sheen is Charlie Sheen's father. When he was younger Martin Sheen made a movie called Apocalypse Now. There's a scene in that movie when he is travelling up river in a patrol boat. They recreated that same scene and and his dialogue. Also Martin Sheen and Charlie Sheen starred together in a movie called Wall Street playing father and son. Get it now?

@stepanserdyuk4589

@Alfred Stimoli Also, Charlie is quoting his own character from the "Platoon" movie.

This is brilliant. There are 4 Jokes in one here.
1) Martin sheen is Charlie sheen’s biological Father
2) they’re spoofing apocalypse now (Martin Sheen)
3) they’re spoofing Platoon (Charlie Sheen)
4) while giving each other accolades for their part in Wall Street.
How Awesome is that?

@hafirenggayuda

I also like the movie is not even trying to explain this joke. Many people (I included) just notice it years after knowing what it referenced to.
Great joke works even if the recipient late getting the punchline

@kevinkarsnia109

I think they are spoofing Rambo not Platoon.

@armstronglorne7806

@Kevin Karsnia  Have you seen this film? The Rambo joke starts much earlier in the film. By now, it's just how Sheen looks in the movie, and they are on to the next bit. THIS is EXACTLY what the OP said it was, every point. The Platoon reference - if you have not seen Platoon, it won't make sense. Charlie Sheen is in Platoon and writes in a journal throughout. Martin Sheen has voice over in Apocalypse now. This scene perfectly recreates the shot, the dialogue, even the other characters on the boat in Apocalypse Now. The OP gets it exactly right.
