Combining guitar textures from the 80’s college boom with the energy of punk rock, Montreal’s The Hot Showers have been a fixture on the Montreal scene for almost a decade, slinging out their particular brand of rock ‘n roll excess through the province’s bars and showrooms. From thundering, primitive garage riffs to sun-baked Americana, The Hot Showers take the audience through a sea of influences that may well double as a beer-soaked visit to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Who says you shouldn’t wear your influences on your sleeve?
Sharing guitar duties are Frank Dupont and singer Michel O’Narey while drummer Shawn Van De Peppel keeps the beat, and bassist Melissa Nicolosi makes sure the rhythm is fresh and steady. Each member brings something unique to the mix, from Dupont’s skate- punk riffage, Van De Peppel’s metal-powered drumbeats and O’Narey’s bluesy howl to Nicolosi’s hard rock leanings.
2013 will mark the release of The Hot Showers’ second album, following the release of their debut Memories of Melodies in 2009. Through the years they’ve shared the stage with international stars like Frank Turner and Jesse Malin, as well as local favorites such as Grimskunk, Les Prostiputes and The Brains. They’ve appeared alongside legendary acts like Hot Water Music, Wayne Kramer (of MC5) and Less Than Jake on a charity compilation titled Music 4 Cancer: The Cause and contributed their talents to the musical score of a CBC short film. Their polyvalent love for the world of music has seen them adapt to the toughest crowds and most unusual situations.
With the yet-untitled album to be released in 2013, The Hot Showers are poised to make a splash on the Montreal scene.
Nostalgia
The Hot Showers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The good the bad, the time that passed.
I don't have any regrets,
That's not true, I've got a few I bet.
Most of them I'd like to forget,
For the time that passes never brings me happiness
Your time has passed but you cannot.
You want your friends and you want 'em now,
You don't care when or where or how.
But you can't, they're dead
They've left and they've changed.
That's the way life goes, that's the way life goes,
Move on, don't wait.
Nostalgia
It's time now to put it behind you,
Forget about what life has done to you.
The pain it seems, won't heal won't end,
If you can't accept the rules of the game.
Good and bad experiences,
Won't be of matter in the great hereafter.
Nostalgia
The Hot Showers's song Nostalgia is a reflection on memories and regrets. The lyrics express the idea that dwelling on memories, whether they are good or bad, is not helpful in finding happiness. While the singer claims to have no regrets, he admits that there are some he would like to forget. However, he acknowledges that the passage of time cannot bring happiness and urges listeners to move on and not wait for the past to return.
The second half of the song speaks about accepting the rules of life and the inevitability of change. The singer notes that while people may wish for friends or loved ones who have passed away or moved on to return, it is impossible. He emphasizes that dwelling on nostalgia is pointless and advises listeners to accept life and move forward. The final lines of the song suggest that in the end, memories and experiences do not matter, as everyone must accept the inevitability of death.
Overall, Nostalgia is a melancholy song that acknowledges the emotions that come with memories and regrets, but ultimately seeks to find peace and acceptance in life.
