I agree with Mark on castration but not chemical castration, only physical because I saw a documentary on a prison for sx offenders that offered voluntary chemical castration in exchange for a shorter sentence. The problems with chemical castration are

1) unlike physical castration which is a one time quick and permanent procedure, chemical castration is a lifetime procedure. It has to be administered I think every month for it to remain effective.

2) unlike physical castration which is a simple and rather inexpensive surgery, chemical castration is very expensive to tax payers and would be close to impossible for offenders to pay for on their own especially when they got out and couldn’t get a decent job

3) because it is voluntary, a lot of the offenders didn’t continue with chemical castration once released .

Therefore I think physical castration is the only option.

As for the other sx offenders, primarily only politicians insist on lumping everyone together. I don’t know anyone that would label someone a sx offender for an 18 year old who sleeps with a 17 year old, of someone who goes to a bar and meets a woman who turns out to be a minor with a fake ID. Even the grey area of “ date rape “ where they both willingly got in bed, undressed, started making out and just when the boy starts to penetrate the girl she changes her mind. Or when someone clicks on a link and unknowingly takes them to underage porn or porn they didn’t realize was underage. All these cases are not what the average person is talking about when they talk about pedo. We are talking about someone who actively and intentionally grooms or harms a child sxually. So these other people should not even be considered for castration or sx offender lists.

This is my mom. I encouraged her to reach out to Mark to talk about her story, given the empathy, love and open discussion I consistently see in the comment sections of his videos. I'm thankful to see that this comment section contains not only support, but also views and experiences that differ from my mom's perspective. This discussion is important, and if my mom's voice can offer a platform for anyone to discuss their own trauma and experiences, I believe a valuable purpose has been served. For the majority of my life, I didn't know about her father, as she wanted to protect my sister and I from the pain she experienced and the confusion of her relationship with her father. I've had a hard time delineating the positive, optimistic and outgoing woman I've always known as my mom from this person who's experienced such difficulty and strife navigating a relationship with a father who has done the unthinkable. As someone who never knew my grandfather, it's simpler for me to bury his memory as a sick man who did evil things in his life. I understand my mom's experience as his daughter, as someone who knew him first as a father before knowing him as a sex offender, is inherently different from mine. I hope this discussion has brought my mom, and anyone else viewing this video with a family member who is a sex offender some semblance of peace, or at the very least an understanding that they are not alone.

@KA M So are people with her perspective not important? I found this video interesting in a way that everyone can learn more about the offenders. We need to be talking about this, not shutting it down. Otherwise we are not going to figure out how to improve our society. People need to learn how to watch something, and not react. Process the information like an evolved organism and THINK. You don't have to tear everything down that you don't agree with. This woman is in no way making excuses for her father. She's telling her honest story and you all are demanding her be silenced for absolutely no reason if you really think about it. But you don't think. You react and we get nowhere.

As a victim of molestation by three different people, I have ZERO empathy for her dad or anyone else who commits these crimes. The amount of years I’ve spent trying to cope with what happened to me is astounding. I will have to continue pulling myself out of my mental hell for the rest of my life. She hadnt been groomed by her father and felt she was molested by seeing a naked adult man, i really see that she is comfortable finding sympathy for the horror that her father wrought on young lives for decades. Yea I was getting ready to comment how prevalent it seems. My Mom was raped and molested for years by her step dad and it caused her a ton of trauma which I feel rippled down through the genetics of our family. If I have children I couldn't ever imagine leaving them around any male friends or family members. Have zero to little trust because you hear these stories and sometimes the perpetrators are people you'd never imagine. Also it's one of the crimes that would be likely for me to commit murder against kind of like Cain Velazquez tried recently and obviously I wouldn't want those problems because not only does it seem like a generational traumatic curse but going to prison for life causes your kids even more pain not having a steady father in the home. Child predators really need life in prison.

As the son of a convicted sex offender. The outer body experience she described when her dad confessed to her is exactly what happened to me when I was told of my fathers crime. I was on the phone to my sister, I heard what she said and then the next thing I knew I was face up on my kitchen floor. These crimes truly destroy families, not just victims families but also the families of the offender. I will never be the same person I was before that phone call.

I was in the beginning of my junior year in high school. That summer I had been raped. Our teacher asked us to write about our summer. We would staple the papers shut and we would open them at the end of the semester. Then write about how we felt about what we had written.
My letter to myself was so profound, it changed my life. Thank God for teachers who make a difference. Thank you for your story, Danica. I wish you peace.

My uncle molested/raped almost every female and male in my family until I pressed charges against him. His secret was then out. Even still his mother my grandmother still accepted him and forced any of us who wanted to see her to have to put up with his presence. She blamed us kids saying we dressed to provocatively with our tank tops and shorts as child younger than 10..younger than 5. Ugh!! When she died we told our uncle to leave and never come back. He stripped her house and left an ugly message on mirrors of her house before he left. I have not had contact with him since. I once saw him as a homeless man. He had a sign that said “God saves” and “Jesus saves” while he pushed a cart. He should be in prison. What he did to me was just the tip of the iceberg of victims he created over his lifetime. It tears up a family. It leaves a forever scar on every person. So sad.

I think that convicted sex offenders say that they’ve been a victim of sexual abuse because it’s likely to provoke sympathy for them. Pedophilia (a sexual attraction to children) isn’t a choice, it’s something that’s deep within a person’s psyche, molesting a child however IS a choice! Pedos need somewhere they can safely go to get the help and support they need in order to control their impulses. Education and support is the only way to win this horrendous war. Most pedophiles never ever molest a child and are disgusted by their own predilections. Pedophilia is rampant and always has been. It’s the fear,stigma and public repression that keeps victims quiet and allows molesterers to molest. We need a no shame treatment option for both victims, perps and also non molesting pedos. This woman is clearly still struggling with coming to the reality of who her father truly was. He offended again and THATS when things really changed in your family?! He’s been doing it for years since the 70s I believe she said. Was she really that shocked? I understand she wouldn’t want to see her father in prison: my father sexually abused me and once I could remember some of it, I decided not to report to police partly because he was already dying of cancer anyway. But holy shit her disconnect is evident. She keeps using the term “sex offender” because it’s safer for her to place a blanket term over the truth of him being a pedophile. Yes, being exposed to a man’s penis as a child is traumatic. But it’s not abuse in the same way being molested is, and not in the same way being raped is, and so forth the more sadistic it can get.

Edit: that money passed from father to mother was hush money. No chance a man will give his wife money to leave him. The money wasn’t even in a card, it was in an envelope and there were no words exchanged.

The book came out in January 2022. I highly recommend her book. It really explains a lot of the emotions of sexual abuse including the shame.

The truth is that offender's that commit "lesser" crimes against children are likely to go on to commit more serious ones if they're not stopped. So yes those who commit minor offences should be treated seriously and they should stay on the register.

Her confusion about her father (she still loved him but yet hated what he did) is understandable because she was groomed also. She was a large part of his maintaining his facade. She said herself that he was an actor and good at wearing a mask. There was no love but he merely played the part of a father. She was used and is unable to accept that due to her grooming. She is a victim in that sense.

In the video and even in this chat the term grooming is being used in the wrong context. Her father did not groom her. She was not being exploited. She describes him as Disneyland. A runner who should not be categorized and should be entitled to things after prison. She glorifies him and keeps in touch with him. I’m sure she would have been singing a different song if she was at the hands of him at night. And she’s a school teacher. Like what’s wrong with her!! Not to mention he marries a young girl after her mom died. He’s a disgusting paedophile. And she’s no better trying to capitalize off this. Of course it’s easy for her because she’s no victim. Yes pedophiles live here as well, and yes they are as despised here as everywhere else. What im saying is, in order to rehabilitate these people, you first need to identify the need. As a victim of physical abuse and later helping a legal advocate in custody cases, I think abusers of all stripes are defined by their callous disregard for their victims. My experience is that 1) there is a LOT of protection for male offenders--getting to the point of conviction can be arduous and ruinous even for well-off, much less disadvantaged victims; 2) coming forward can cause the victim a LOT of lasting harm as they are often disbelieved and penalized by the courts; 3) in custody situations you risk losing a child victim to the abuser if the abuse cannot be proven (pre-verbal child, no marks, child can't testify, etc...). In my experience, showing compassion just opens the door to more abuse. Protecting victims & making it safe to come forward should come first. There are already powerful people & groups who advocate for the rights of men who abuse children (think Alan Dershowitz). I think that strengthening the rights and protections for the victims and making it safe to come forward is the best prevention. And finally, in my experience, when we suspected something it was always worse than we could have ever imagined.

I'm hoping it's easier to come forward than it was on the early 60s, when even basic mental health care was viewed with a jaunticed eye. My father knew and when he caught my mother it stopped, but if he had done "something" he would not have gotten custody.

The thing about the registry is that it makes people feel safe like "oh I know all the offenders in my area, I won't let my kids trick or treat at that guy's house". But you don't know all of them. For every one person on the registry there are so many more who never get caught. In order to get on the registry you have to offend, the victim has to tell someone, the person they tell has to believe them, law enforcement has to be contacted, the district attorney has to believe that they can secure a conviction. At any one of those points - if the victim never tells anyone or they are not believed or law enforcement doesn't take them seriously or the district attorney doesn't believe they can secure a conviction- the offender gets away with what he did. There are so many people who should be on that list who never will be, who got away with their crimes.
Believe victims, don't minimize their experience or blame them for putting themselves in that situation. Just believe them.

I've been binging child predator stings on YouTube (hint to anyone interested, search "puggy pug" to see the sickest of the sick) and it's incredible to see a man groom who he believes to be a 9 year old for months, sending D pics, having hours of phonecalls, 100s of pages of depraved sexual chats .... all that evidence handed to authorities, only up hear "the DA isn't interested in pursuing this man, sorry". I had an uncle that offended his granddaughters, and I remember feeling bad about myself just because he was a part of my family. I was completely shocked, and did not believe it at first. My Dad sat in at the trial, and I remember him calling me (after the last girl testified) and dad said “ he did it, he’s guilty”. I was sick to my stomach. I kept blaming myself for not seeing something was wrong. 5 sweet innocent little girls that he molested. I wanted to spit on him, and rage at him. I had such a difficult time trying to not love the uncle I had known my entire life. I was in my 50’s when we found out. Now, in my mind, it’s like he’s 2 different ppl. I was abused at 15 by a man in his 60s. 5 years later I was diagnosed with schizophrenia, I've battled drug and alcohol addiction since shortly after my abuse. 11 psychiatric ward hospitalisations too. Not all of my issues stem from SA but it plays on my mind every day. At 37 now I only just addressed the issue with a psychologist but no amount of therapy can alleviate the issue. I told a nurse in the psych ward when I was in my 20s, but he dismissed me and said it was 'sexual experimentation'. This made me carry even more shame and guilt and secrecy until I finally spoke to the psychologist this year who believed me. I'm not a pitchfork wielding, mob mentality person, and I forgive my abuser, but once anyone is found guilty of sexual abuse of children, there should be a mandatory life sentence.

So many stories on this channel are gut-wrenching and leave you emotionally drained, yet feeling overwhelming empathy for these people caught between a rock & a hard place in life: this is not one of those stories. This came off as a woman continuing to live in denial about who she grew up with - a serial predator. It took quite awhile for her to get to the part that it was never just a 'touch over the panties', but years of grooming and abusing multiple victims. My god. He isn't human. And Mark's question about castration - in whatever form - is exactly what should happen to those who willingly choose to abuse children. Why, in the name of all that's holy, would you want a convicted pedophile remaining able to have children themselves? Give them whatever therapy you like, but if castration effectively limits, or even ends, their ability to abuse any children, including their own, in the future, then so be it. And by the way, continually calling it a mental illness does a disservice to those afflicted with such that is not of their own making. Pedophiles - I don't believe he was referenced as that in this interview - are completely cognizant of the decisions they make when grooming and then abusing. It isn't mindless. I do have empathy for family members who absolutely didn't know as they don't deserve to wear the perpetrators guilt. But they will always be secondary to the true victims - those innocent children - and their families, who can face generational trauma that never fully heals.

She can't fathom the effects of true assault because it never really happened to her,she doesn't see it like a true victim. The trauma that the child feels and carries through life is unbearable. Truly devastating and you would want the person who inflicted that life sentence to you to have the same life sentence in hell.. Oh my, this video brought some serious PTSD for me. My father also is a sex offender and I was much younger when I found out but when I did it was an out of body experience. My dad said the exact same thing as her dad...full of lies ultimately. I think her perspective is much different as an adult that it would be if she found out as younger person. I agree with her on some aspects, but I see how others feel like she is too compassionate for sex offenders. It is a fine line because sex offenders are master manipulators, and they're goal is to control everyone around them. Speaking not only from experience, but also from research and experiences of others that I have had to advocate for because they were being abused...I would never trust a sex offender. The shame and satisfaction they have from manipulating and orchestrating is too prevalent to take a risk with trusting them. She is 100% right about if you feel uncomfortable about a certain thing, listen to it and don't let your kids go with them.

Thank you for doing this video. As a male survivor of s*x abuse, I found it very interesting. I was a 12 year old boy when the abuse began, and it went on for about a year and included forcible r@pe. At 14, I tried to k!ll myself. And at 16, I was victimized again by a perp who could see how broken I was at that point. After decades of on and off therapy, I’ve come to some level of peace with it, but have often thought about what drove the abusers to be like they were. They’re just evil? Or just broken in different ways? It’s a lot to think on.

My sisters and I have very strong suspicions that our mother had multiple offenders when she was a kid, she has never come right out and said anything but things have been said over the years that make us feel these things happened. She turns 95 this month and even at this age it still seems to have had a very horrible impact on her life and how she interacts with people. Things done to these kids never really goes away.

Although the mental illness card being used may be true the whole utterly disturbing lengths some people will go grooming thier victims is unbelievable. My uncle was a monster who groomed my mother by giving gifts and money, help for a single mother of two only to destroy my life and my relationship with my own mother because she didn't believe me then and still. All because he was so generous to us and took myself and my sibling away on trips, bought us things we never would have had. To me they are devious and cunning. I do not and will never feel empathy or have any tolerance for them.

Hopefully those of you who do this to children, and you know who you are, will listen to her tell her story and will learn from it. Not only are you inflicting harm on these children, both physically and eventually, when they grow up to realize what you did was wrong, mentally...but you will get caught, and it'll be YOUR face that shows in disgrace to not only your family, but to the rest of us normal human beings out here. It'll be your face that graces the halls of your inevitable prison home, so just remember that.

Very insightful interview and a very rare perspective on the impact reverberated around the family ….I would however offer my opinion that she was groomed rather than abused as she was smart enough to get out of there before anything happened …I don’t mean to demean her experience or dismiss the impact it had…I think she’s amazing to have had the self worth and ability to know it was wrong and get out of there …amazing little girl who’s turned into an amazing woman shining a light on a very dark subject …..no offence intended to her or anyone ❤

I’d just like to add there are so many degrees of abuse …it’s all wrong and shouldn’t be done but we need to get some perspective here and focus on the more heinous offenders ….this I don’t feel is subjective…. I’m interested in the manual she mentioned about the tiers of abuse…..very interesting woman with an amazing ability to speak from a place of wisdom first rather than fear or anger …..rare perspective indeed ❤️‍🩹

Great discussion. She is in a very tough position. You never really think about the sex offenders families and the effects on them. Still I think castration would be the best solution. She said herself, they cant be cured.

I am survivor. I respect her research, openness and appears she has forgiven him. I believe predators can also have mental illness. I refuse to believe offending is nothing but evil. If you offend, you cannot make excuses such as poverty, abuse and neglect lead to preying on children. It's just evil and satanic mindset that just over takes that person. It's selfish. It's disgusting. It's devastating to children who always have to have it to deal with. You never ever ever get over it. You learn and survive with it. Predators never change. The only cure from them to stop is death.

Great, also because Dr. Hubbard does not dehumanize the perpetrators. The keyword is "silence". My very best friend, who I met during my college days, told me on a walk after ten years of friendship, out of the blue in a cold voice, that her eldest sister had moved out and the family was upset. I couldn't quite understand that because the sister was in her thirties and from my point of view it was long overdue. But then R. said that the father had abused her sister H. since she was 8 years old and that the father and H. had lived under one roof with the mother and the other two daughters like a married couple for years. The family was/is upper middle class. I was shocked and cried. But all of a sudden I understood the seemingly strange fact why R. never invited me to her home. A few years later I read her father's death notice in the newspaper, written with touching words by his wife and daughters. I was appalled and disgusted at the apparent hypocrisy. In the meantime, insight has replaced feelings of disgust for me. In so far as I know (so I'm happy to be corrected!), in the USA pedophiles, in addition to many years of psychotherapy, are given drugs such as Medroxyprogesterone and Leuprorelin, which are supposed to inhibit the production of testosterone in the testicles. This is monitored with blood tests. It is not known how effective these drugs are in pedophilic women. Antidepressants called SSRIs may also be helpful. They may help control sexual urges and fantasies. They can also reduce sex drive and cause erectile dysfunction. It seems that drug treatment is more effective when combined with psychotherapy and social skills training. However, there is a lack of convincing research and long-term studies. Prevention is key and more mindfulness and caring for children in general. The severely disturbed perpetrators were certainly once victims.
In Germany, the sexologist Prof. Klaus Beier is a co-initiator of the prevention network "Don't become a perpetrator". The network offers free and confidential treatment for men and women, adults and young people throughout Germany who are looking for therapeutic help because they feel sexually attracted to children. The expansion of these networks and the permanent funding by the Federal Ministry of Justice is important for prevention... and an important condition for prevention.

As a child, I bought a "Slambook" for my elderly dad. It was designed for adults or elders. (He had me when he was 57). He wasn't a sex offender.
He was a soldier, and so was his dad, and they...saw things. He never spoke about the wars. And he never wrote down anything of his past. He was an amazing father, though!!! To me and his many adopted kids!!!

I find it confusing when she first said that sex offenders can’t be cured and then turns around and says “well how can we help them if the whole world hates them” like ur trying to help someone that u said can’t be cured? Idk help me out

And the fact that she’s pretty much saying that we need to help them out too sayin-“if they’re doing it, they’re doing it for a reason” shouldn’t give any person the right to do this to any child wether or not they’ve come from a past of abuse/trauma themselves. If that were the case, that should give a person even more reason to NOT want to cause any kind of trauma onto someone else let alone a CHILD. A person with any empathy toward another human would not be sex offending and replacing a wife simultaneously and then invite his daughter to comedy show, to meet her new mother from the grocery store. I was raped by another child when I was 12 years old. I only recently learned that this is referred to as cocsa. I hope one day to tell my story too. Like she said, the boogy man isn’t always obvious. My mom always warned me about pedophiles but she never thought she would have to worry about another child.

I do not want to be disrespectful on such an valuable social platform (SWU), but I cannot stomach the toxic empathy put forward by this woman. It is so disturbing. The irony of an English teacher presenting her narrative in a thinly veiled persuasive manner, instead of the more straightforward descriptive manner of a "biography" - which is how the book is being sold.... is certainly not lost on me. FYI: There are actual peer reviewed studies on sexual predators... perhaps she should have left the analytical expertise to those less biased. I would give her a grade: "T" for "triggering".

I understand the claim it’s a mental illness, but her father is a perfect example that he was able to live a perfectly normal life with this illness. All while potentially ruining his victims, so I too find it hard to find empathy for sex offenders
