Dressed in Dresden
The Hundred in the Hands Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh, you think so?
Well, I know so
And when the lights all go out
Slay me, hold me down
And hollow out my heart

And then again
And then you say it once
You say it twice
"Baby, hold me close
And say I'm so in love"

Oh no, I know
I'm so in love

Well, I don't know
I think so
You say it once
You say it twice
Maybe, I don't know

These are our times
The End Times
And when the lights
All go out
You be Bombed Berlin
And I'll play Stalingrad
You be Bombed Berlin
And I'll play Stalingrad

All in all is all we are
No way out
I'm right tired
When the lights all go out

God, I'm so in love

In and out
And out and in
In and out
And out and in
In and out
And out and in
In and out
And out and in
Oh no, I know
And out and in
Oh no, I know
And out and in
Oh no, I know
And out and in
Oh no, I know
And out and in

These are our times

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Dressed in Dresden" by The Hundred in the Hands is a mix of love and war. The opening lines convey confidence and certitude from the singer, who is telling the subject that they are wrong and she is right. The next lines, however, show vulnerability as she asks to be held down, hollow out her heart and also be told that she is loved. The repetition of the phrase 'in and out' adds to this sense of when they are together, they are in their own world, where the worries of the outside world don't matter.

The chorus of the song sees the singer unsure of her feelings, but eventually coming to the realization that she is, in fact, in love. As the song progresses, the imagery shifts to war. The singer compares their relationship to the 'End Times' which is a biblical reference to cataclysmic events that are supposed to happen before the end of the world. The imagery of 'Bombed Berlin' and 'play Stalingrad' shows that even in the worst of times, they will survive together. The final lines 'All in all is all we are. No way out. I'm right tired when the lights all go out. God, I'm so in love," show that in the end, all that matters is love.

Thanks for the answer ! These guys are very good ! They make me think of the "Patrouille de France". That's a compliment; since the PAF is considered one of the best, and even sometimes the best of all . It's funny, the world three best teams (French PAF, British Red Arrows and US Thunderbirds) are from the three countries in the world with the best airforces. That's gotta mean something !

Some Guy
