Friedman was once a member of the indie rock outfit The Boggs. In November 2007, following a US tour supporting The Boggs’ third album Forts, Jason Friedman and touring member Eleanore Everdell found themselves in the studio recording a brand new collaborative track without the rest of the band. Friedman said: "In the past, the collaborators I worked with would adjust what they did to fit my vision. Working with Eleanore it was clear that the time had come to shift into a more equal partnership.” In the 10 months since that session, the seven-year-old The Boggs were laid to rest, and The Hundred in the Hands were formed.
The first song completed was "Dressed in Dresden." In March 2009 the band released the single Dressed in Dresden / Undressed in Dresden on Pure Groove label. The online success of this song led in August 2009 to a deal with Warp Records, which Friedman calls "near the top of my list of ideal labels." Warp issued the 12-inch single Dressed in Dresden in 5 April 2009.
Eleanore Everdell also sang on "Lover’s Day" from TV on the Radio’s Dear Science.
THITH released in 18 May 2010 their first 6-track EP This Desert, followed by the singles Pigeons in 13 September 2010 and Commotion / Aggravation in 15 November 2010. The song "Pigeons" supported by an original music video, became their most popular song. In 20 September 2010 they released the debut album The Hundred in the Hands.
The Hundred in the Hands are inspired by artists like Young Marble Giants, Wire, New Order, The Cure, De La Soul, Buddy Holly, Broadcast, LCD Soundsystem and many others.
The duo's second studio album, Red Night, was released on 11 June 2012.

Lovesick once again
I get slapstick when you walk in
I get so nervous I stutter and flail
Troubled sleep,
I don’t eat,
I’ve gone pale.
Tarantulas under the skin
Got King Kong battling within
A blood moon looms in the sky above
I’m the Wolfman,
I’m frantic in Love.
It it it it it it it rips into me
I I I I I I I’m a mess
Violins in my heart
And I start
To shake and I shake and I shake
Romance, flowers, Champaign
We go dancing, we kiss in the rain,
I’m sedated and trying to forget
I’m agitated
I’m covered in sweat
It it it it it it it rips into me
I I I I I I I’m a mess
Violins in my heart
And I start
To shake and I shake and I shake
Shake shake shake
It it it it it it it rips into me
I I I I I I I’m a mess
Violins in my heart
And I start
To shake and I shake and I shake
Shake, shake
To shake and I shake and I shake
And I shake and I shake and I shake
And I shake and I shake and I shake
And I…
The Hundred in the Hands' song Lovesick is a relatable song about the overwhelming feeling of being in love. The song's lyrics capture the physical sensations that come with the intense emotions of falling in love. The opening line, "Lovesick once again," sets up the theme of the song and describes the feeling of getting love-struck repeatedly. The singer then explains how they become slapstick when their love interest is around, indicating how love can make us act out of character. The lines "Tarantulas under the skin / Got King Kong battling within" illustrate how strong the emotions are, using vivid imagery to describe feeling simultaneously trapped and exhilarated.
The chorus of the song is where the intensity of the feelings is truly highlighted: "It it it it it it it rips into me / I I I I I I I’m a mess / Violins in my heart / And I start / To shake and I shake and I shake." The repetition of the "it's" and "I's" emphasizes the all-consuming nature of love. The use of "ripping into" indicates the pain that can come with loving someone so deeply. The mention of "violins in my heart" adds a sense of beauty to the overwhelming feelings, but still, the singer is unable to control their physical reactions to love.
The second verse is a contrast to the first, describing the gentler moments of being in love such as dancing and kissing in the rain. However, even in these moments, the singer is still affected deeply by their emotions, both sedated and agitated at the same time. The repetition of "shake" in the final lines of the song further emphasizes the physical toll being taken by overwhelming emotions.
Overall, Lovesick is a powerful song that captures the all-encompassing nature of love and the physical sensations that come with the intense emotions.
