Produced by David Newton of The Mighty Lemon Drops and released in October of 2009, the debut climbed independent radio top 100 charts. All the while, the band had already finished recording album number two.
After a tour of the west coast, The Hush Now went back into the studio and put the finishing touches on their sophomore effort, Constellations which hits radio in the US and UK in Feb 2010. Of the album’s first single, Hoping and Waiting, the UK Music Review writes, “a little Stone Roses, a dash of Guided By Voices, a smidgen of Flaming Lips and a dose of Yo La Tengo; one of those classic pop tunes that pop up from time to time and catch you pleasantly off guard. This is superior indie pop from a band well worth keeping a very close eye and ear on.”
Like their debut, ‘Constellations’ pounds along at a blistering, powerful pace, and gladly the invention and surprises are all still there. Among the many standouts, ‘Thorns’ successfully employs some U2-style delayed guitar rhythms before it’s controlled pressure cooker lets fly with a soaring atmospheric trumpet solo. This is their transient, festival-headlining moment it seems. “Haven’t you had enough already?” Noel Kelly chant’s as the brakes gently come on. “No” is the answer actually, as they then effortlessly dispense ‘All You’ve Said and Done’, all stop-start blunt rock riffs with a sheen of retro keyboard sounds and subtle horns teasing out every bit of feeling. (Americana UK)
“Shiver Me Starships,” is The Hush Now’s 3rd release in as many years. With the band’s line-up secured including Adam Quane (lead guitar), Barry Marino (drums), John Millar (keys), Pat MacDonald (Bass), and Noel Kelly (vocals/guitar), The Hush Now bunkered down to write and record in May and June in Boston, MA. Produced by The Hush Now and aided by the talents of Benny Grotto (mixing) and Jeff Lipton (mastering), “Shiver Me Starships,” is a powder-keg effort boasting soaring vocals over The Hush Now’s unique melancholy AM Gold groove that pulses behind curtains of melodic guitar. The band has not abandoned their sonic trademark but rather, have expanded and taken their sound to the next level. This is the work of a confident and mature band ready to make an impact.
The Hush Now are preparing for a tour of the US around SXSW this spring. And as Ian Fildes at Americana UK points out, “with album number three, amazingly, already in the pipeline The Hush Now are in danger of lapping the competition.”

In December snow
I trace your tracks
And follow them back home
It happened here
You pretend to cry
Hide what you know
You found love
So you found love
How could I have tried
To make you stay
You sold out
So you sold out
What did you have to give away
You found love
Braced in the cold
Lights on every door
I?ll let you go
But not before you know
At least say that you cared
At least say that you cared
When you played lost
And gave him everything I know
While I was waiting here
At least say that you cared
?and I?ll go away
The song "Pining," by The Hush Now, is a haunting and melancholic ballad about lost love, regret, and the bitter end of a relationship. The lyrics paint a picture of a cold and snowy night, in which the singer is following the footsteps of a former lover, retracing their path back home. The singer seems to understand that the relationship is over, but can't help feeling hurt and betrayed by the other person's actions. The lines "You found love/So you found love/How could I have tried/To make you stay" reveal the singer's realization that their lover has moved on and found someone else.
The chorus is particularly poignant, with the repetition of the line "You found love," underscoring the singer's sense of loss and the futility of trying to hold onto something that is no longer there. The outro, "At least say that you cared/And I'll go away," reveals the singer's desire for some kind of closure, despite the pain it would cause.
The song's words and melody come together to create a sense of longing and yearning that is both sad and beautiful. The instrumentation, with its mix of electric and acoustic guitars, creates a dreamy and evocative atmosphere that perfectly matches the song's mood.

Our footsteps fall
As we walk through the cold winter snow
In December snow
Amidst the winter's cold with snow falling all around us
I trace your tracks
I follow your footsteps in the snow
And follow them back home
Until we reach our destination, which is our home
It happened here
A significant event occurred in this place
You pretend to cry
You fake tears to conceal your true feelings
Hide what you know
You keep secrets to yourself and don't disclose what you know
You couldn?t wait to go
You were eager to leave this place
You found love
You discovered true love
So you found love
Your search for love was finally successful
How could I have tried
I'm wondering how I could have made an effort to prevent your departure
To make you stay
I wanted you to stay with me, but my efforts were in vain
You sold out
You betrayed me and our relationship
So you sold out
You caved in to temptation and abandoned me
What did you have to give away
I'm asking what you had to sacrifice in order to betray me
You found love
You found fulfillment in someone else
Braced in the cold
We endure the icy weather and its discomforts
Lights on every door
Christmas lights illuminate each house and entrance we pass by
I?ll let you go
I'll release you from my grasp
But not before you know
But first, I need you to understand something important
At least say that you cared
I need to hear that you cared about me, even if it's too late now
At least say that you cared
You owe me that much, to acknowledge the emotions we shared
When you played lost
When you pretended to be unsure about what you wanted
And gave him everything I know
And freely gave your love and all your secrets to another person
While I was waiting here
While I remained alone, clinging to the hope that you would return to me
At least say that you cared
I need some closure and validation, so please tell me that you had some feelings of regret or remorse
?and I?ll go away
Then I promise to leave you alone and move on from this painful chapter in my life
