The group was founded as The Roosters by Chattanooga, Tennessee natives Sam Gooden, Richard Brooks, and Arthur Brooks, who moved to Chicago, Illinois and added Jerry Butler and Curtis Mayfield to their lineup to become Jerry Butler & the Impressions. By 1962, Butler and the Brookses had departed, and after switching to ABC-Paramount Records, Mayfield, Gooden, and new Impression Fred Cash collectively became a top-selling soul act. Mayfield left the group for a solo career in 1970; Leroy Hutson, Ralph Johnson, Reggie Torian, and Nate Evans were among the replacements who joined Gooden and Cash before the group's demise in 1983.

Inductees into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, The Impressions are best known for their 1960s string of hits, many of which were heavily influenced by gospel music and served as inspirational anthems for the Civil Rights Movement.

LOL, so funny you wrote this. I'm looking at "A Bronx Tale" now and this song starting playing; which brought me here. "C" did pump his fist, jump in the air and say "I knew you was one of the great ones". "A Bronx Tale" has some of the best music in a movie...so many good songs. It showcased music throughout the 60"s (timeline of the movie).

I'm gonna play all these oldies to my grandsons on our way to Myrtle Beach SC..they love these songs and wonder how that music was so different in all its ways..they recognize how the rap culture can only go so far..can you imagine going to your 40th high school reunion and listening to raw and crude and raunchy rap..not gonna happen..if you're lucky you will reach 60 plus years and realize the trip itself has to have some meaning..guaranteed..

I think music is more deep today. Not popular music obviously, but from 60'/70's rock onward, music had really meaningful metaphorical and poetic lyrics. Music prior just seemed a little more on the nose and meant to be taken at face value, but it was sweet.

Life as we knew as a child is being erased by gentrification but what is in our hearts and minds is still here. God is so good. Now granted all the older people on my block have passed where I once lived but we have the sweet good memories of loving neighbors. We miss you all including our parents. And all the young people who we lost to the Vietnam war and the people from my youth. God Bless everyone and I love you all. A blast fro the past. Amen.

When I was in the U.S.N. 64 -67 Ihad reason to spend some time in San Diego waiting for my ship. I used to go to the electronics store on the base and they allowed you to take records into a booth to listen to them. I am originally from NYC, and needed to hear this sweet music. I spent a lot of time in the booth listening to these cats. Much Love
