The Inchtabokatables Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Lost my direction I don't know what I knew
Sometimes I'm thinking that we only were
Born for destruction
And then I know it isn't true
Sometimes I'm running far away
From all these empty lost years
Sometimes I'm proud about my roots
I would like to live in
But then I'm sure there is no room
If you would ask me what you could do
Against your depressions
I'd answer you you have to drink
If you would show me all destructions
That are still around us
I'd give you glasses made in pink
If you would thank me for the many years
We are together
I would ask: hey who are you?
If you would tell me something 'bout
The time when I'm a grandpa
I'd take you to where crosses grow
The Inchtabokatables' song "Sometimes" is a contemplative and introspective piece about the different ways that people cope with uncertainty and despair. The song begins with the singer admitting that they sometimes drink more than they should in order to cope with emotional distress. They feel lost and directionless, unsure of what they once knew. The singer reflects on the belief that they were born for destruction, but they later realize that this is not true.
The song continues with the singer running away from their past and feeling proud of their roots at other times. They also express hope for the future, but acknowledge that sometimes there is no room for their dreams to come true. The end of the song is somewhat cryptic, with the singer suggesting that they would take someone to where crosses grow if they asked about being a grandpa, but it's not clear what this signifies.
Overall, the song seems to be about how people cope with the uncertainty and pain of existence, sometimes relying on unhealthy or unsustainable coping mechanisms, but also sometimes finding hope and pride in their past and future. The lyrics are open-ended enough that they could have multiple interpretations, depending on the listener's experiences and perspectives.
