The Interrupters Lyrics

Rebel against the kings of babylon!
Rebel against the kings of babylon!
Yeahh
They got the swords and the spears
and the bows and the knives
But we'll fight it with our brothers and our sisters for our lives
Rebel against the kings of babylon!
God made man and man made kings
And the kings rule man and they bring the suffering
And the people rise up, they see it as a riot
They wanna have control so you cant be self-reliant
They make your world and dont make an alliance
They sell your soul they will buy it for a dime
They sell it for a dollar, so they can turn a profit
It's a vicious cycle and the only way to stop it

Rebel against the kings of babylon!
Rebel against the kings of babylon!
Yeahh
They got the swords and the spears
and the bows and the knives
But we'll fight it with our brothers and our sisters for our lives
Rebel against the kings of babylon!

They run the drugs so they make all the money that the
busy bring up like a bee making honey
They hide in the shadow call them self-reliant
All the people shadows are so getting tired
We're not locked up, we're starving in the streets-o
Their belly's getting fat while the weak are getting weaker
The politicians, up for all the profits
It's a vicious cycle and the only way to stop it

Rebel against the kings of babylon!
Rebel against the kings of babylon!
Yeahh
They got the swords and the spears
and the bows and the knives
But we'll fight it with our brothers and our sisters for our lives
Rebel against the kings of babylon!

oooooh- yeah yeah yeah
Songs of the system of control
oooooh- yeah yeah yeah
oooooh- yeah yeah yeah
It's a radical radical
oooooh- yeah yeah yeah
Yeah like it's happened before

Rebel against the kings of babylon!

Yeahh
They got the swords and the spears
and the bows and the knives
But we'll fight it with our brothers and our sisters for our lives
Rebel against the kings of babylon!
They got the swords and the spears
and the bows and the knives

But we'll fight it with our brothers and our sisters for our lives

Overall Meaning

"Babylon" by The Interrupters is a song that advocates against systemic oppression and urges people to rebel against the leaders who create and maintain it. The lyrics speak of the violent and destructive nature of these leaders who use weapons to suppress their opposition. The chorus calls for rebellion against the kings of Babylon, encouraging people to fight for their lives alongside their brothers and sisters.

The song then goes on to question the legitimacy of these leaders, pointing out that they were made by men, and they in turn oppress men. The lyrics highlight that the only way to stop this vicious cycle is for people to rise up against these leaders and take control. The song suggests that these kings of Babylon maintain their power by selling people’s souls and running drugs, with politicians profiting from the suffering of the people.

The Interrupters use the metaphor of Babylon, a city known for its power and wealth, to represent the oppressive system of control. The band urges people to take inspiration from the past and rebel against the powers that be. The song is a call to action, a rallying cry urging people to stand up for their rights and refuse to be oppressed any longer.

Jenny Drinks!
Everything in the kitchen sink
'till she's all messed up and she can barely think
Jenny Cries!
And then she sighs, so suprised
She wipes the teardrops from her eyes cause she's on the brink

I say the world just ain't ready for a spirit like me!
I never been so frustrated with humanity!
And I suppose that I'm the one who seems crazy!
But the world just ain't ready for a spirit like me!

Jenny Smokes!
Until she chokes, she's flat broke
And he loans her 50 buck for a black coat
Jenny laughs!
She fight back, to show her back
In her condescending weakness she'll react

I say the world just ain't ready for a spirit like me!
I never been so frustrated with humanity!
And I suppose that I'm the one who seems crazy!
But the world just ain't ready for a spirit like me!

I say the world just ain't ready for a spirit like me!
I never been so frustrated with humanity!
And I suppose that I'm the one who seems crazy!
But the world just ain't ready for a spirit like me!

Jenny waits
She evaluates what gemma said
She's a sin although you know she likes to sing
She don't budge
She don't judge, she's for a love
At the very least she's always interested

Come on the world just ain't ready for a spirit like me!
I never been so frustrated with humanity!
And I suppose that I'm the one who seems crazy!
But the world just ain't ready for a spirit like me!

How is it Babylon isn’t on their current tour set list? Love this song!

These guys are a really good live band. Her voice has that Joan Jett sort of attitude. Yes, it's musically a punk-ska band, but if you see them live their energy is infectious. In Birmingham, AL, in front of a crowd that knew nothing of them, within a few songs they had the entire audience singing back the lyrics, doing extended vocal choruses to let the crowd learn the words and chant them back. They were almost as enjoyable to watch as the band they opened for, the Dropkick Murphys. Almost, that is. ;)

I can see that, These guys are wicket. Do they ever come to Canada?

William Banning

Joan Jett is the best comparison, couldn't quite place it, but you nailed it
